Look at the picture at this link,..Seal size on a 1g TB is different sizes,..

http://dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=26661&highlight=throttle+body+seals

Im gonna change the TB seals in my 90 (March 1990 built GSX) and need to know what is the size of the smaller seal,..

Ive read the VFAQ, Plymouthlaser.com and did DSMTuner searches to no avail,....Can anyone help me out with this as I got HUGH air leak at the TB,..I cant boost more than 1-2psi on my turbo and the TB is just one place I got leaks with a pressure test,.

thank you
Kevin

Yes, there's an o-ring on each side of the shaft. You can use #7 o-ring (1/2x3/8x1/16, STK NO 35724B) made by Danco Company (available at any hardware store) as replacement.

This was in the post you quoted. And it is correct.

I have replaced shaft seals on THREE 1g throttle bodies using these seals. They work like a charm.

Why would you have 2 different size shaft seals? The shaft doesnt shrink on one end, does it? No. Just buy 2 of the above sized o-ring and put them in, it will work. :thumb:

About the different sized o-rings,...I guess that it depends when your car was made during the early 89-90 years,..My GSX was made in March of 1990,..It even states this on the VFAQ and Plymouthlaser.com link about some early cars having different sized o-ring sizes,...

Will Belancic post a picture of this at this link:

I just want to have the correct seals/o-rings before I take my TB apart so Im still looking for answers,..

Anyone know? Im still looking for an answer,..Hey,...where are the "old school guys?" LOL

BTW,..did you know im the original owner of a 1990 Eclipse GSX? I never did just jump on the "bandwagon"

thanks

you could always get a 92-94 style throttle body, change the seals on it, and then swap the newer style TB with your old one...

You know what, I couldnt tell you off the top of my head what was involved. I know for sure that the 90 TB obviously only has 2 vacuum ports, while the 92-94 tb has 4. So for one you will need to cap off or seal 2 of the 4 ports.

Ive got a JDM TB on my 92 now, it only has ONE vacuum port.

I dont think swapping the TB should be too difficult and Im pretty sure its been done before. Could you describe any other differences between the 2?

MY 90 GSX and 90 GST both had the the TB where there was 2 different size O-rings. One smaller and one the same size as the 91-94 O-rings. I couldn't tell you what size it was but you could always take it out and messure I guess.

But yes the 90's or some of the have 2 O-ring sizes in them.

Im gonna keep my 90 TB, but Im getting a 92-94 TB and gonna change the seals in it and possibly block off the FIAV too and put it in my car,..

I would like to know the smaller o-ring size so that I can replace the seal and have a spare (measuring isnt always accurate with such a small o-ring diameter unless you got a micrometer expecially when it comes to air leaks),...

And I thought the 89-90 TB intake opening was also ~60mm (what is it exactly?) and the same to the 92-94? BTW, I bypassed all my vacuum lines and blocked off my EGR via Taboospeedshop.com so the vacuum lines arent an issue,...Anyone know the difference between 89-90 TB vs 92-94 TBs??

thanks

The sensors on the 89-90 TB's connected on the harness, while the 91-94 connected on the actual sensors on the TB. Also the 89-89 TB's don't come apart in 1/2 like the 91-94 TB's. The vacuum lines of course but I forgot what else if anything.

Are the diameters the same (eg 60mm on both 89-90 TBs compared to 91-94 TBs?)

So then I take it that everyone is getting the 91-94 TBs to do the FAIV mod rather than keeping their own 89-90 TB's. Plus, the seals/o-rings are the same size too making it easier to find,..
