I have 92 Eagle Talon AWD Turbo automatic (i know that sucks) either way I can not figure out what is going on with it. The car will start up after sitting for a day but then stalls seconds later. Upon restart, the motor will turn but not fire up. If I wait another day, the same thing will occur. Start of first turn and then stall. From what I have been told it could be something in the fuel delivery, alternator or the car is running way to rich. I pulled the plugs and the tips are blackened. The plug wires have spark. Could it be something with the mass air flow sensor? For whatever reason the car is running extremely rich, so that is the first problem but in order to tune properly I need to get the car running for longer than 10 seconds. Any suggestions would help. Thanks for the feedback....

Can you smell the gasoline when it puts? Have you tried even unplugging the MAF and seeing if the results vary? It couldn't hurt to check all of your IC piping to make sure something didn't pop off. I would go ahead and check your timing as well.

yes you can smell gas especially one the first try when it actually fires up. about the MAF, i just bought this car for $100 bucks two weeks ago so it lacks ammenities like a air filter. no joke. i opened up the canister the other day just to see what kind of shape the filter was in and too my surpise there was nothing inside the canister other than the MAF. That looked to be in good condition however without having the proper testing equipment, it would be hard to prove that it works as it should. My cousin has been into this tuning scene for a while now and upon his review of the cars current state, he seems to think that it might be the MAF because for some reason the car is being told to deliver too much fuel. And from what I know, this could be the case because the MAF is there to make the decision based on air intake, how much fuel should be delivered, correct? If it were to be the MAF, does anybody know how much replacements are. And while we are on the MAF I have been doing some searching around on this particular car and have seen a number of different cars now that do away with the air filter canister and either have a straight cold air intake or in one picture it looked like the car had an air filter bolted directly to the turbo. So if this is the case, what did they do with their factory MAF? So thanks again for your input, I appreciate very very very much. I give the Intercooler Tubing another look over to see if any holes are leaks are present. So thanks again and I hope for some more feedback.

I will also unhook the MAF and see if anything different occurs. The MAF is the computer mounted inside of the air filter housing right? It has two honeycomb screens on it stock. That is before being hacked. Just want to make sure we are on the same page. thanks again.

Yeah, all you need to do is unlpug it, not completely remove it. As far as people who run straight filters on their turbo, they have relocated their MAF with most likely a GM MAF(Which is what I also have done). The GM MAF then goes on to ## upper intercooler piping after the BOV therefore you can really do whatever you want with your intake. You can take a look at my profile pic and check it out if you'd like.

thanks alot for the info bud, i appreciate it. my cousin is going to stop by this sunday so at that point we can take a closer look at the MAF and all that jazz. hopefully we will be able to pinpoint what the problem is and then go from there. thanks again.

You might want to check the connector at the coolant temp sensor (just under the thermostat housing). If the wires are broken, the car will run super rich and die. My son's '90 GST had the exact same symptoms as yours and the wires were broken at the temp sensor. It took forever to figure it out. If they're broken, you can just use crimp connectors and hook it back up. Might as well try the easy stuff first. Hope this helps.

The car should idle without the maf being plugged in (I've driven mine this way at least once). The maf does'nt go bad very often, I would also check the coolant temp sensor connector and try swapping the sensor itself with a known good one. Fuel pressure is probably ok for now if it starts every time.

I went out and checked the coolant temp sensor just under what I thought was the thermostat housing. (the thermostat housing is one the passenger side of the valve cover. The radiator hose connects to the top of this correct.) From what I could see the connect seemed to be in okay condition, minus being dirty as hell. Aside from that there was another square connector with two female prongs that seemed to run back up under neath the thermostat housing. The wierd thing is that it is not connected to anything. It is just laying against the radiator hose. Does anybody have any idea what this is for. There is some slack there but not much. I checked the immediate area around this connection to make sure that it didnt just come unplugged but I was unable to find anything thing to connect it too. :notgood: So I will keep checking these issues one by one until I find the problem, but please keep giving suggestions. Thanks for your replies.

Did the temp sensor that was connected have 2 wires? If it had only 1, it is the sender for the temp gauge. The one for the ecu has 2. I should have been more specific. The two temp sensors are on the lower thermostat housing and face the front of the car. There is also a sensor on the upper thermostat housing. It is for the A/C. That will hopefully clear things up.

Good to know you can just clip the stock connector plug and solder on spade connectors... I was a bit nervous to do this (the wires at the connector are badly frayed on mine) as the connector looks large enough to potentially carry some kind of logic... even something as simple as a transistor or a line filter cap.
