Looking for a exhaust for my 1g fwd tsi. Looking for a cheaoer priced one as im on a budget. I can't seem to find one anywhere. Seems like all i can find is 1g awd or 2g fwd. Can anybody give me some leads please?

Literally 2 seconds on ebay
Link
There are two pre-made ones, 2.5 and 3", mandrel bent, aluminized for fwd 1gs on that page for reasonable prices.
Or spring for thermal r&d here for a bolt on friendly setup, but it costs more.

I'm currently using a v6 accord resonator as a muffler. works pretty good and shouldn't cost much of anything at a junkyard, plus they're stainless. I'm just piggybacking off what 90laserRSfwd said, it's a good cheap muffler, and it's not really that loud.

Hi, first what type? 3" TBE or a stock exhaust?

Edit: if you're looking for a 3" Turbo back that might be hard on a budget. I can only find cxracing cat back exhaust for upwards of $300 and then a 3" down pipe would be another $75-100. Could be cheaper if your looking for stock OR get it done at a muffler shop. (I have a 92 TSi fwd)

I suggest only doing a cat back exhaust in what ever diameter you want. Until you're making sufficient power an opened up exhaust system will actually hinder you more than help you. You want back pressure to be present to some degree.

This is COMPLETELY false. A turbo car doesn't need ANY back pressure to function properly.

Yes it does, unless your 02 housing is ported too much exhaust flow will prevent the wast gate from opening causing boost spikes

WHAT WTF? I don't think you understand how a internal wastegate works. If you honestly believe that the o2 housing (stock or ported) will prevent the waste gate (flapper) from opening therefor causing a boost spike, you are severely mistaken. Stop spreading misinformation.

Both of you are half right. Yes open exhaust will lend to the issue of boost spikes but it is not the CAUSE of it.. but also a turbo car does not need any backpressure but it should be mentioned that a good 2.5 exhaust is plenty for the average DSMer. If you think you need 3" and your aiming for around 300whp you need to research our cars more thoroughly.

So as previously asked.. OP what are your goals?

(90laser, I wasn't even gonna touch on the o2 porting thing because I've been in the game for years and I couldn't wrap my head around it)

Sorry to say friend but my information comes from a extremely talented mechanic mentor of mine whose gotten his 2g to run a 13 flat. When too much exhaust flows through the constriction of 02 housing it creates a venturi effect that has enough pressure to prevent the flapper from opening until there's enough pressure on the waste gate side to overcome it hence the boost spike

you all have gone way off topic, from power, to back pressure to whatever. He's just asking about exhaust's. We don't even know If he's just trying to REPLACE the stock one or go BIGGER.

you're the only one who has asked about goals.

Edit: when I put a 3" TBE on my old 93' awd without o2 porting it spiked like NO OTHER, ported it out as well as the flapper hole slightly and guess what - held solid boost from whatever the MBC was set at ;)

Sorry guys didn't mean for it to go this far I just wanted to help prevent any issues.

Don't be sorry bro. We are all just trying to help each other out.

OP: get back to us when you can so we know whats up with your plans.

The OP already has a 3" down pipe on his car (unless his profile is wrong), so we can ASSume he is looking for at least some sort of performance oriented exhaust. The next ASSumption we can made is that he isn't looking for a stock replacement

Here is a quick read (for the OP) IF you experience a boost spike or over boost condition after the exhaust install..

Then if he's going for performance he needs to either A) head to a muffler shop and get the cat back custom fitted or B) spend upwards of $300ish for a FWD cat back 3" exhaust... not a lot of options for 1G FWD exhaust except customs or expensive.

Bahaha. @93AWDDSM I may be having a stroke. I could of sworn someone asked goals. Orrr I read too many posts this morning.. In any event I maintain 3" isn't necessary and since it's FWD local muffler shop would be cheapest option, There's really only 2 or 3 bends. If your semi handy you can just make your own.

FWIW Mitsubishi Diamantes follow the almost the exact exhaust route that FWD dsms do.. It might need to be massaged to fit. but If you're talking CHEAP some massaging will be required anyway.

I've been looking into 3" tbe for fwd and name brands are pricey. Muffler shop is most likely your best bet for cheapest as stated above by 19gsx91.

Thanks for the replys. I just picked up the car about a month ago. Finaly got it running with numerous repairs. Still needs some love. It has s 3' down pipe with no flex section leading to the middle of the car with no cat. Super loud and sunds like shit. Doesnt have any creep. My goals are a daily 250-300 hp for now. I found the cx racing for about 350$. Might do that unless i can find a muffler shop.

I looked underneath mine yesterday, not very many bends at all. I think a muffler shop could get you the rest of the 3" piping back for less than $350, installed.

What type of downpipe is it currently?

Not sure. All i know is Its a 3in dp welded to about 2ft of 3in piping. Also the flange on it looks different size than the 02 flange. (Bigger) but bolts right up.

Its a 3inch down pipe welded to a 3inch pipe that ends in the middle of the car. No cat. No resonantor, no flex pipe. Its lound and sounds hidious. Ill get a pic in an hour or so.
