Im looking to get a 1g eprom with Dsm link off of a guy and i was wondering what do i have to do once i get it as far as tuning it. heres the deal.... it is set for an 18g and 850cc injectors i believe and I have a 14b with 450cc injectors...Im getting this so that i can get rid of my afc for when i get an evo 3 16g and 650's. I was wondering do i have to get a new chip or what?

You just need the cable, a laptop, and some time.

awesome thats what i thought but i wasnt positive. Its already been socketed and everything. so I think im good to go. it has the cable and the DSM LINK V2. and a 91 FWD eprom.

Not to sound shallow but make sure you dont already have a eprom before you buy one, because as I recall your in the high percentile range of having a eprom since your a 91...

really? I dont want to pull my ecu apart to check...plus i dont think i would be able to tell anyways. wouldn't i have to get it "socketed" whats that mean anyways. sorry. is there numbers i can check?

Pull the ecu out,
theres four screws, two on each side, get a phillips screw driver and unscrew them...
Take off the ecu cover... Dont touch or scratch or damage the board obviously.
Visually look on the bottom left corner for a little black chip about an inch long sitting to the side by ittself that has a E on it and some numbers... ( The numbers will vary, but all of them should have a E on the black chip.. ) Thats a eprom ecu..... For the non eprom that will just be a blank space there...

Not if its already socketed LOL
You never know with dsms...
Mines was socketed by Jeff at keydiver when I ran his dsm chips

www.dsmchips.com

I believe there should be local places that can do it for less than 40 bucks as well
at places that do computer board socketing and etc... I dont know if radio shack has a expert socketer but ask around there will be local proffessionals... Dont just let joe blow try to socket the ecu though, get someone who knows what there doing...
Hopefully you have a eprom... Good luck...

AWESOME! Thanks guys I appreciate the help! as soon as I check it out ill post up what I found out. Thanks Again!:talon: POWER

It's honestly a good idea to hang onto a spare ECU anyway. The fact that the one you're picking up is socketed already is a good thing... I've had DSMLink on the shelf for the last year and change, because I can't find anyone local to do it, and my DSM is also my DD.

Plus, if your current one IS an EPROM ECU, you can just sell it on and get some money back, and still have it as a fallback in case anything happens to the one with DSMLink, and you need to send it off to the guys at ECMTuning (the people who make DSMLink) for repairs or diagnosis.

This is true...
One thing to add, check both boards for acid damage... If the one your buying has acid damage i dont think you should buy it, ( depending how much your paying for it.)

Which is why you have two ECUs... one to run on while the other is out being repaired. Severe acid damage would be a problem, but minor damage is repairable.
