1g brake problems

i got a 90 talon all wheel drive. i am replacing the rear pads and when i got the old ones out and put the new ones in there was not enough room to allow 4 the brake disc. as far as i know all u are supposed to do is retract the piston all the way and voila slip the new ones in and slap it back together. am i missing something? any and all help is appreciated.

oh ok just curious my aunt worked there, thank god for being out of hs, it was a beotch one year out and loving every minute of it
