1995 talon tsi problem?

Hello, a friend of mine is willing to trade me his 1995 talon tsi for my acura integra (which obviously seems like a great deal cause i hate hondas) but anyways he wants to trade straight out....but the only thing is that his talon spits and sputters and backfires at 5000 rpms. if you drive it normally it drives fine. any idea of what this could be? i don't wanna make a bad trade. Just looking for advice. Thanks.

Kind of sounds like a boost leak to me, or too much spark plug gap. Could be a number of things though.

Yeah i had a gst that blew the head gasket but was doin the same thing so i was thinking either a blown head gasket, or a boost leak. But was jus tryin to get a better input on the situation cause the integra is my dd. And i was sorta hopimg itd b a weekend fix .

If the Integra is your dd, don't trade for the Talon. I'll be getting myself back into the DSM game here shortly when I find a decent one locally but it's going to be garage queen, weekend warrior car. I had to rely on my previous 97 GSX and it left me stranded a couple times. Save up and buy one, because you might hate Honda's but they don't quit.
