18x9.5 Rims to big??

I was looking at some Wheels for my TSI and i found some Ilike there 18x9.5! Are they to wide? Whats the Usual/Most Common size people use? I don't want the same size but I also don't want them to big!! I do have Tein-S Springs on there way which are going to drop my car 1.3/Front and 1.2/Back so I think 18" would be perfect I'm just not sure about the width! Thanks - Ryann

I believe 245s are as big as you can go on the back without issues. I know that you have to also roll the inside lip of the rear fenders to keep from dicing up your tires. I would personally go with 17s but that your preference. Here a link that will be helpful

What is the offset of the wheels. There is a 99 percent chance they won't fit without sticking a good inch out of the fenders.

I would not get them. They are going to be too wide and you will have to put wide tires on them just to fit as they are as wide as vipers and vette rims.

unless you just want the looks, there are way more cons than pros.

bad mpg as larger wheel/tire combos weigh more and more rolling resistance.

worse handling due to increase in unsprung weight and suspension having to work harder.

it will probably change the weight load on the wheel bearings and may cause them to wear prematurely.

as wide as these are, if the offset is high, it will probably rub on the rear struts and or front ones as well. If the offset is lower, say less than 30, it will hit the fenders.

to do it right, keep the wheel/tire center as it corresponds to the wheel bearing placement in line with stock or your tires will wear bad as the camber will be off.

Most dont take things like this into consideration and just throw on some cause they look good and then wonder why the inside or outside of the tire is nearly bald and the other side is relatively new looking.

depending on the model and options, it could be either. the 1g was 16 but the 2g had either. My point was to make sure to do it right. I have seen too many cars with wheels slapped on cause they look good and wear terribly and the owner is scratching his head.

My favorite are the people that used to flip the rims inside out and the cars looked like big go-carts. Car shops love this as wheel bearing dont last long on these cars cause they changed the center load for the bearings tremendously.

I just measured mine and the 17by6.5! so what if I did 18x7? or something like that? or is 18 will make to much of a difference in everything? Thanks - Ryann

I tried out 18x9.5 +35 and it worked with my 97'. I had 265/35/18's on it. They were a bit too wide and I didnt want to mess with my fenders.

I traded the rims for 18x9 +35 (same rims too) with 255/35/18 ToyoR888's, which fit much better personally. No fender rolling here.

17" and 18" inch rim will work fine, I had some 18's on awhile back, I personal think 18" inch was too big for my taste, looks "DUB"

Main concerns for you are the offsets. We range from 35-40 positive offset depending on your car, anything less or more, is sticking out too far or not enough clearance. Unless you don't care for rollers.

Yours Are 16" in avitar,pic..but 18-17 x 7.5-8 works perfect.

I had 18x7.5 with 225/40/18 tires

going with 18 will throw off many things on the car.

worse mpg for a few reasons.

more weight per corner and will handle worse and bumbs will not feel good.

more likely to bend them as you have to decrease your sidewall to keep OD so your speedo is somewhat accurate.

more expensive to replace tires.

if the offset is off by much compared to stock, wheel bearings may fail prematurely.

I went back to stock due to the previous owner had 17s on my 90 awd talon and the rear tires were feathering as the camber was slightly off. it had 215/45/17 and I put on some enkei rpf1s with stock 205/55/16 and now the car handles better and is faster than before.

Personally, best thing to do is to go as small as you can, save weight, keep your load bearing 'center' and get light rims as they help out in so many ways, they pay for themselves. If you want just looks, get whatever floats your boat but, know that your car's performance is going to be lowered in many ways but, performance isnt everything too.

i got 18x8.5 and have no problem just a little tire rub sometimes and im lowered 1.75", anyone who has problems its called buy a camber kit

If you have the cash, the best 17s on the market are, in my opinion, velox rims. cannot remember the style at the moment, think pg something 5s. They weigh in at 12.5lbs, forged, and are about 300 or so a piece. The look pretty good as well.

SSR has some good rims but fairly expensive. Same for Volk as they are even more expensive. Motegi tracklite 2.0 are good as well and very light as well. they are around 300 or so but weigh in at around 14lbs for 17x7s. Its up to you really.

key thing is to keep offset near the same as stock or at least keep the center load for your wheel bearings if you want to go with something that is not very close to stock as far as specs go.

sorry to bring a dead thread back to life, but could anyone tell me if Evo 9 or Evo X rims will fit on my 2ga gsx? I want to avoid fender rolling or rub on the rear knuckles.
Can anyone tell me what i would have to do to install larger rims?
