Yes I have read, used the calculator, and searched, but before I spend my well earned money, I'd just like your opinions/suggestions. The rim is 17x8 with a 42 mm offset MB Motorsport Weapon wheel in gun metal. The problem is the tires. I'd like to run a xxx/45/17 tire as far as width I was thinking of 245 but I'm not sure if it will fit, so far my research shows that 235/45/17 will fit but I'd like to make sure . I'd like to go with Falken Azenis or some Kumhos 712's. So I'd just like some help on what size tire. I'm on stock height and no plans to lower anytime soon. So I'd just like to know your opinions or basically what width is going to go with the setup I want. As you can see in my Sig my daily driver is down and I need to make my order Asap.

(Open to any opinions/suggestions)
Thanks in advance

Stay with the 235's and you should be okay. 245's will almost certainly rub the knuckle in the rear.

Would a spacer get me the 245? If so what size spacer?

All tires of a stated width are not exactly the same. 2mm spacers would get you the clearance for some, including the tires I am using, Falken Azenis SST115. 5mm spacers would get you the clearance you need for most other brands. I'm speaking hypothetically though. I've never used spacers so I can't advocate them.

If you use those spacers, will your tires be sticking out of your wheelwell ?

I plan on getting 240 on a 18x8 rim on the back and 235 on a 18x7.5 on the front.

No. 5mm is less than a quarter of an inch.

Good luck finding automobile tires in a 240 width.

Where could I get some spacers. What price range do they run and what size would you recommend for the 245's? Thanks for your help

I meant to say 245 OMG , yeah that's it. :thumb:

Don't buy 712's. Trust me on this one. Get Falkens, they utterly romp on 712's.

If you go with Falkens, try 2mm spacers first. You can probably get them at your local auto parts store. You could even space the wheel with washers to test fit. I used to tell people that 4mm was the minimum clearance between the rear tires and the knuckles, only becauase I heard that from somewhere else. I now think if the tire doesn't rub when you mount it, it probably never will.

2mm spacers shouldn't give you a stud length problem I believe the rule of thumb is that minimum thread engagement must be equal to the thread diameter of the wheel stud. So at 12mm, 1.5 pitch you need 8 full turns of thread engagement. If you use 5mm spacers, you will need longer studs.

Isn't the 245/45/17 a larger overall diameter than stock size.

Yup, it's a whopping 3.4% larger than stock, by my calculation, same as the 245/40/18's I'm using. Use the tire size calculations as a guideline. You won't implode, explode or invent cold fusion if you stray a bit from stock diameter. In my case, at highway speeds there is no significant difference between the speed registered on the speedometer an that on my GPS.

Two points.

First, keep in mind that the stated width of a tire is at the sidewall, while what matters on a 2G is the width at the tread, since what usually rubs is the upper inside corner of the tire against the rear knuckle. Because of this, you want to pay attention to the shape of the tire. For example, Falkens (especially the Azenis) are known to be rather square, meaning that the tread is almost as wide as the sidewall. To be clear: a 225 Azenis is about the same width at the tread as a 245 Kumho MX, which is part of why 225/45/17 Azenis are about the same (until they get too hot) as 245/40/17 MXs. In any event, you almost always need a lower offset for Falkens than you do for other brands of the same stated size.

Second, if you have already committed to a certain tire and wheel, you can save yourself a lot of money and pain by test-fitting them using washers between the wheel and hub, to learn exactly how much spacer you need. If you do this with the shock/spring removed, it is easy to cycle the suspension to make sure that you aren't going to slice the tire open on the fender lip, too. Then you go surfing to find hubcentric spacers of this size.

Just an update. I got the wheels in they are 17x8 42 offset and 245/45 Azenis. Yes they rubbed, I used extended wheel studs from RRE, spacers and heres a picture of what it looks like now that the wheels are finally done.
