So im heading up to the drag strip again hoping to break into the 11s. I hit a 12.3 last time at 112 my question is I dont mess with my tune to much just the 2 step and adding a little more fuel stupid stuff like that. Any who The local Gas station sells 100 octane Now If I run 100 octane without touching my tune. will I see any differences or will my car have to to be re tuned to notice anything different I normally run 93 pump

If you were knocking, you'll see better performance from a higher octane fuel. This is because your car won't be knocking anymore and the timing will be higher potentially making your engine produce more power.

If your tune was pretty good on pump gas and you throw some 100oct in there you probably won't notice a difference unless you up the boost or increase the timing. Higher octane will let you get away with more aggressive tune than pump gas will. So, you have to adjust for that in order to take advantage of it. The easiest way is to up the boost, lean it out, and increase timing.

Good luck

Sums it up right there.

What fuel is it exactly? leaded? keep away from that leaded crap. If you can find 100oct you should be able to find some E85, much better fuel imo.
How much is fuel up in NY, like for regular/100oct etc?

Ok I understand for the most part at the track I was Getting some knock due to the fact off colder temps so I took my fuel sliders up 1 from 3500 to 8k. as far as leaning it out how would go about doing that. And when you say increase timing by how much for exsamle my timing at 7k is -5 and 6k is -10

Well, since you don't have a WB02 listed in your mod list. I'll explain it this way... If your maf signal and injectors are properly compensated for, with the sliders at 0 across the board the target AFR on a 1g ranges from about 9.9-9.0:1. With it in the positive, the target is even richer than that. Without a WBO2 it's hard to tell if you are actually hitting that target or not. So, we'll assume you are. To lean it out you need to pull the sliders from about 3k+ back down to 0 or possibly lower to get it to a leaner AFR.

Now here's the problem. I wouldn't go leaning it out too much without a WBO2 because if your maf comp and injectors aren't set correctly and you're actually hitting a 11.5:1afr when the target is 9.0:1, then you go and lean it out blindly, you'll be sorry in the end.

I basically will just run it how it I guess. Damnit I knew I shouldnt have sold my WB02 I guess ill hope for 11s on 93 LOL thanks for the info

Never had to retune running 104 octane unleaded myself. I notice my h.p. graph on DSMLInk looks alot smoother with a more consistent burn rate and it shows. But in general you will have to up the boost/lean out/advance timing to reap the benefits.
I add 1 psi of boost for every additional 2 octane points based on knock given the same timing advance and a/f ratio in general. So, 100 octane might net you another +3-4 psi above 93 octane, or +5 psi using 104 octane unleaded.

Fuel = 2.98 a Gal for 93
Cam2 Race fuel 104octane is almost $9.00 a gallon
and i think it is unleaded.
E85 is only $1.something a Gal. but i thought we could not run e85? i heard it was bad for our cars if it wasnt supposed to take it.?

Basically to run E85 you need bigger injectors, bigger fuel pump, and something to control the fuel/timing. E85 requires roughly 20%-30% more consumption than gasoline, so everything fuel related needs to be up to par.

The big advantage of E85 is that it has a high octane rating (I've heard about 105) and costs a bit less than pump gas. Basically it will allow you to run significantly higher boost than pump gas at a far better price than race gas.

It does however come with drawbacks; for one your gas mileage is going to drop significantly (remember 20%-30% more consumption versus gasoline), but with the proper setup you can switch back to regular gas any time you'd like, and then switch back to E85 when you're headed to the track. You'll also often hear that it's bad for your fuel lines and can gunk up filters since it's practically a cleaner, though I've never heard of anyone actually having those problems personally. Probably the largest problem is that it's not extremely common, and should you run low on E85 you'll be SOL if you can't find a station unless you keep your laptop/tuning software in your car.

Also it appears that E85 pumps are shutting down due to low demand, not sure about your area though: http://www.dsmtalk.com/forums/showth...hlight=run+e85

You won't need to retune as in the u.k I run shell 99 everytime I fill up and I don't have dsmlink or and tuning system! And its all good I don't have any problems atall and I've been doing this for a few years! But as people say you can run slightly higher boost safer but simply your safe!

And on the e85 its good but many racing teams have problems with it! Aston martin have had so many problems running it and 4 top ends have gone due to the fuel! Was the valve's and guide's went on all occations and solanoind! Don't skimp out on turning to e85 get the best parts poss and tuning and you might be ok.

Hi JTURBOGSX, we're practically neighbors. What track do you go to NYIRP? We should hang out sometime and go to the track.

I've seen the 100 octane at Delta Sonic, I remember it was $7.00 a gallon this spring, I haven't tried it yet, and haven't looked at the price recently. I would love to know how you make your car so much quicker than mine with your short list of mods. I haven't run faster than 13.35 or 110 mph.

I have an AWD Colt conversion in the works, so maybe that's it. I look forward to racing you next spring.

Ps. You pull your fuel sliders down (-) to lean it out, and you can get knock from running too rich too. I was running 10:1 and getting black smoke and knock. I pulled it down to 10.2:1 and it got much better.

Also: Innovative tuning on Hinnman in Buffalo might have a wideband in stock if you decide to get one.

Ahhh, i see . thanks project.:thumb:

Never used E85 before I have always heard mixed things about it. I was told that it is very corrosive, and inconsistent. I have run 100 octane street gas before from VP called StreetBlaze 100 I think the American Lemans Series uses this fuel.
