1 piece driveshaft pros and cons

Im getting a really good deal on a 1 pc driveshaft for my 1g. I was just wondering what are some pros and cons of going with a 1pc vs the stock driveshaft.

What "one peice drive shaft" are you talking about? What brand?
If its a DSS driveshaft, that wont make it a one peice drive shaft, It makes it a two piece, getting rid of the two stock front shafts!

Its an aluminum driveshaft from another car the length is the same as a 1g driveshaft all i have to do is swap the yokes from the talon driveshaft to the new one and put it in. I was just wondering if there was any issues with running one in a 1g.

A 1 peice drive shaft will more and likely vibrate like crazy, cause of the angle of the tcase and rear diff...its not a straight shot from the tcase to the rear diff! It would also wear out the u-joints really quick...I would find out what brand it is before instaling it on your car..

Sounds like less universal joints to worry about going out and it may be lighter than the OEM.

Actually this is a very bad idea. You DO NOT want to run a 1 piece aluminum shaft. The length of the shaft is too long to make it one piece. The aluminum doesn't flex enough. The only 1 piece shaft that you can even really think about running is the carbon fiber drive shaft that DSS used to make. They don't make it anymore. Maybe you should call DSS and ask them why...

I forgot to add that its made of carbon fiber on the shaft, where the u joints are is where its aluminum. Its prob 1/4 of the weight of the stock driveshaft.

What would go wrong if i were to run this other than tons of vibration?

It could maybe flex too much and fly out from under the car.

I think a 1 piece would have to be too fat to fit under the car, considering the length of it, and the speed that it spins on a car with 4.55:1 final drive gears.

There was a guy who had a 1 piece built for his AWD Colt last year, and it launched out causing all kinds of collateral damage the first time he got on the thruway. It was too thin, and just bowed out in the middle.

What about a two piece with a fairly solid middle support?

Rebuilding the stock shaft is expensive.

Yeah, if its truly 1 piece, then stay away. However, the DSS driveshaft is awesome. I just installed one in my car. Its nice to get rid of the front section. I also added some Torque Solution bushings along with my filled carrier bearing. :thumb:
