I am going to swap from a 1.8 to a 2.0 will the trany and every thing fit on to a 2.0

there is alot of research you should do if you havn't already, the 1.8 is completely different, from wiring harness to ignition (distributor vs. coil) and he is right, the sensors are completely different and there are many more in the 2.0 good luck, I know both engines well so pm me if you have any deeper questions.

i am looking at swapping a blowm 1.8l(4g37) with a 4g63 turbo. will the traany from the 1.8 work or will i need to swap the tranny too. if i keep the tranny should i use an upgraded 1.8 clutch or a 2.0 turbo clutch? also are the flywheels the same, can i use the 1.8 or should i get one from a 2.0?

i have the engine, all the sensors, the ecu, the entire wiring harness for the car, everything i need but the flywheel and tranny. just trying to find out if i need them .

i have read post on the 2.0 nonturbo to 2.0 turbo swaps that said the NT tranny could be used. the 1.8has roughly the same tranny, i think.

You can use the tranny, but your gonna need a really strong clutch on that NT flywheel. You cant fit a turbo flywheel and clutch into the non-turbo trans. When im gonna do this im gonna get the Extreme ACT 2600 Clutch kit from prostreetonline Its pricey but should hold up

the highest clutch for the 1.8l is the 2100. will a 2.0 NT clutch work in the 1.8 tranny?

Yes get the 2.0 NT Clutch kit the one I linked to, also buy a used 2.0 NT flywheel, but make sure you have a 6-bolt or a 7-bolt motor before you purchase the used flywheel. Buy accordingly

my buddy just pulled his 1.8 today and he put the 1.8 tranny on a 2.0 turbo with a act 2600 and a 6 bolt turbo flywheel, didnt have any problems...

i mean it physically all fit in and we bolted it up but havent put it in the car yet

he kinda jumped into it blindly and i had to give him a bunch of spare parts i had laying around cuz the 1.8 parts were different, i think its lookin pretty good tho, as long as he can buy a full wiring harness it should be an ez swap

full cyclone motor with all sensors and everything on it, i put a 6 bolt turbo flywheel and act 2600 then bolted his 1.8 tranny up to it. motor mounts all looked the same except the driver side was smaller so i gave him one from a turbo and i think it should bolt right in and just wire up the new harness and hes already got an ecu for the new motor

anyone actually done this, i see like 200 threads on 1.8 to 2.0 swaps and everyones like OMG noones done it its sooo bad and like no real info, someone chime in

i was the guy who started this postalmost done with the swap just need a cat and exhaust. in all honesty it would be easier and cheaper to sell the car buy a turbo, but i wanted a project car to work on so here goes

parts:

engine, turbo and tranny from the junkyard $750
act 2600 clutch and flywheel
complete wiring harness (for the whole car, not just the engine bay) and ecu $120 off of ebay
intercooler $30 ebay
intercooler piping $40 muffler shop
fuel pump walhbro $90 ebay
fuel, wastegate and boost soleniod $15 junk yard
bypass valve $10 DEALERSHIP
blow off valve $10 junkyard
instrument panel $20 ebay
intake tube $50 ebay (dejon type)
2g map sensor $20 buddy
motor mounts on engine $20junk yard (mounts in the engine bay were the same)
oil cooler and hoses $20 junkyard
resistor pack for the injectors $15 junkyard
stainless steel clutch line $20 SBR
B&M FPR $50 autroparts store (a must with a high pressure fuel pump)
spark plug wires, coil pack, injectors all included with the engine
down pipe $190 pacesetter (cheap and 3 in dia.)
DSM SHOP MANUAL is a definite must.

This was my first attempt at a motor swap, i'm not a mechanic, i'm a nurse, so this might be easier for someone with more experience. mounting the engine the mounts in the engine bay are the same, the mounts on the engine are totally different. wiring was hell, not too bad in the engine bay but the interior was a pain, the 1.8 and the 2.0 have completely different wiring. when routing vacuum hoses, if you have a 1991 or up make sure the bypass valve is attached to the evap canister, make sure you pay close attention to the vacuum diagrams, i have a 1991 and i accidentally followed the 1990, the car would start and just stall.
i would recommend an aftermarket boost gauge and oil pressure gauge, i also installed an afc to tune any airflow issues.
like i said i'm not quite done and the car hasn't been on the road yet but thanks to everyone for the help.

is it running good now?

ok about what i said earlier with the 1.8 tranny on a turbo motor, i was wrong, it all fit but it turns out that you have to have a 2.0 turbo tranny if you use a turbo flywheel and clutch. The bellhousings on the 1.8 and 2.0 non turbo are smaller and they will rub the flywheel and it cant rotate. So if you have a 1.8, tranny maybe you could use a 2.0 NT flywheel and clutch, but that would be kinda lame, i dont know what kinda power that would hold. So basically you need a 2.0 turbo tranny.

my friends car is still not working, he caught it on fire cuz starter couldnt turn over cuz bellhousing with tranny issue, and it just caught on fire LOL. Doesnt seem too bad, just new wiring harness and a fully working turbo motor with everything on it and your good to go.

sorry to hear about the fire, but those were the same issues i ran into back about 3 years ago.
