What did they say was wrong with it? cause it may be unfixable...

It depends on what's wrong. There's no way to tell whether it's rebuildable or not by looking or hearing the car run. The only way to tell is after the motor is apart to mic everything and make sure that nothing is out of spec. As far as the shop telling you "you need a new motor" I would take that thing somewhere else before you pay someone that gives you a general statement when talking about what could cost you A LOT of money.

If I were you, I'd ask them exactly what was wrong with the engine. Do a compression check and post your results. If you have crank walk your block will have to be scrapped. If your piston rings or valves are damaged then the damage might not be too bad. Before you start looking for rebuild kits you better find out exactly what is wrong.

My car started making a funny noise after i changed the oil it was fine in oil and was the first time i changed it since it was new. I took my cover off and there was colaped lifters would this make a noise??? like a knock noise? anyways so my buddy said i woudl need lifters and that a noise was coming from my block and that i had lost compression in 2 pistons before i drove the car fine with the noise and it still boosted beat an old porshe in it!! but after jsut lettin it site there it lost compression and idea??? let me know aslo is 380 to much for a new kit with .020 over pistons new rings all the seals and gaskets and rod bearings and other small things

it was the first time you changed the oil since it was new ???????? You still raced although there was something wrong with your car ?????

the rebuild kit is only 380, but labor will kill you if you arent working on it yourself. If you do work on it yourself, you will at least need a hoist and some other tools you might not have(torque wrench, caliper, etc etc). Also the rebuild kit doesnt include all the timing belt stuff you should replace while you are in there, and dont forget the machine work. You reallys hould find out whats exactly wrong so you know what you are getting yourself into.

It's crankwalk I new it the second I saw .020 over the block is done and buried.

Way to help this guy out. I'll remember this smartass comment next time you need help.

Anyways, like stated above find out exactly what is wrong from them and then take it somewhere else for a 2nd opinion. One shop may just be trying to make some easy money off of your ignorance while someone else may just want to help. If you have collapsed lifters then why the hell would you be racing, hell why were you even driving it? My best advice to you is read. Read as much as you can. You'll see people on here all the time complaining that all DSM's do is break down and cost lots of money, these are comments from the inexperienced and ignorant. You honestly can't expect to take a sometimes 15 year old car, modify it to 2 times the stock power and then complain that something broke because you negelcted to take care of it before it broke. If you just bought the car and now the motot ir fubared, go back to wherever you purchased it and let them know. There are laws against this and in plain morality it's not right.

Dude, like was suggested before, read as much as you can. It seems there is a lot you need to learn about cars/engines/DSMs in general before you start talking about just rebuilding the thing...

hey i found a new engine with 80 thousand miles on it comes with block and head every internal peace in them for 350 then whatever shipping is the rebuild kit was 380 so i rather get the hole engine and have some spare parts but thanks alot and i read everything and anythign i can about all dsm this site is badass i wish there would of been somethign like this for civic but now that i think of it it kinda makes me sick like when all my buddys talk about body kits hood and fenders and all this shit i mean yeah i had it all too but i rather drive my turboed eclipse with primer spots and black body kit not painted than a yellow show car civic with a lame ass d16! :dsm:

my advice is to not buy this other engine... you still don't know what's wrong with yours. until you know what's wrong with your engine, i don't think you should be messing with swapping for one that you find for 350... is it even a turbo engine?
i KNOW that you didn't read everything on vfaq in the time since i've posted the link; i've spent about that much time on vfaq reading about fuel addtives alone!

If your engine is making seriously strange noises (and its not just lifter tick) then chances are there is something seriously wrong with the motor. If this happened only after a week since you purchased the car, you need to take the car back to whoever you bought it from. If there is internal damage to the engine, then your probably going to have to spend alot of money to get it fixed. Bottom line, your looking at thousands of dollars worth of damage if you choose NOT to do the work yourself, and by the sound of it you won't be doing the work yourself because you are very inexperienced at serious automotive work. Remember that the rebuild kit may cost you only $300.00, but the machine shop fees for honing, resurfacing, hot tanking, reconditioning your crank (will be neccessary if your crank has gone for a walk),etc. will most likely cost you MORE than the rebuild kit itself. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you want to actually keep this car, your going to be spending ALOT of money. Perhaps maybe more than the car itself is worth. Good luck.
