i was wanting the VP 10000K Bi-Xenon HID Kit
thanks

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a 1990 uses pop-up type sealed beam headlamps, so first you would need to convert to a composite type housing that uses replaceable bulds.

However, changing to HID bulbs in a headlamp that was designed for fillament bulbs is not a good idea. The light output from a fillament type halogen bulb is quite different from a HID bulb, and I don't mean brightness. When a fillament bulb is on, the fillament heats up, expands and sags downward. When a HID bulb is on, the gas heats up causing the arc to bend upward, exactly opposite to the bulb type for which your headlamp reflectors were designed.

So even though the HID is much brighter the light is not focused properly. The result is you have too much light on the road right in front of your bumber and not enough ahead of the car. This is also very blinding for oncomming drivers because of the lack of proper focus. Also such a conversion is illegal in many places.

So yes you can install them, but it really is not a good idea. Better to use a xenon gas fillament type bulb with a high color temp.

What about with projectors, my current bulbs suck and are hardly better than regular headlights. I thought the only reason I wouldn't be able to put HID bulbs would be heat.

As much as you, I, and some other members would love to put HIDs on a 1G, it would be difficult. You would have to get a housing, and then use a projector from a HID projector only, and then there is the custom work that most would think is not worth it. Check these out...

The second link has some actual HID projectors, but I am not too sure if they will fit without some modifications. Good luck, if you do it, let us know.

Why does everyone around here try to discourage someone from doing a project?

There are many people who Have HID's on their pop-ups... I will be one of those people once I get around to it

First you need sealed-beam coversion lenses. Then you need to get the HID bulbs with the shield over one side of the bulb... this will prevent your brights from being on all the time. If you want brights you'll have to buy something slightly different (and more expensive), either "bi-xenon" bulbs... or "hi/low" xenon bulbs that have a retractable shield

All three ways you will definitely have to re-aim your headlights after the install

you dont need projectors to run HIDs on a 1ga.

Yeah that's the short version of what I was saying... I've known people who have adapted Audi and Beemer lenses into their own, but that was only because they liked the look and beam pattern... It would be very difficult on pop-ups because they use a lot of space

But as for the bulbs and not the fancy lenses...
"Bi-Xenon" only means "two sets of xenon bulbs"... newer kits have both bulbs (high and low) on the same bulb holder

I'm going to be opting for the hi/low xenons (have a servo connected to the sheild) ... less wiring and two less ballasts

...OR...

Just swap over to the 1Gb quad headlight setup, then add in the single channel 9006 retro HID kit for (low beam).

-That's what I did on the OEM 1Gb (non projector) housings... After readjusting the headlights, they function just as any other 9006 Halagen bulb would.

For my 1Gb setup, I got a 35 watt, 50k kit from SHARPHID, here on DSMTuners :thumb: IMO, a good price for a good kit with no issues what so ever... These things even survived a +18.8 volt blast when my voltage regulator in my alternator went out. -They shut themselved down as a result of their built-in over voltage protection. -Fixed the alt and they still work :thumb: I'd highly recommend them :thumb:

but most like the pop ups and they have single xenon bulbs and im most sure that if you get above 8k bulbs you wont need the bi-xenon setup, plus you could see a long ways down the road and will have no need for high beams.:thumb:

HAHA good lord cant anything be simple
all i want is really nice bright blue xenon pop ups.. iv seen them on 240sx's
iv asked at local part shops but noone knows anything about it
thanks for the opinions tho guys
if anyone finds the right lenses and "kit" please send me the link id really appreciate it thanks

The 'bright blue pop ups on 240s' are probably just tinted sealed beams. Think of the "xenon blue" 9006 style bulbs. They're just blue glass in front of a standard halogen bulb.

well if your getting 30000 your not going to see a whole lot of anything all you'll doing is putting off ridiculous amounts of purple light for everyone to see. Get the new sealed headight and go to something say 6000-8000 anything else is just color no real light output. SHARPHID is a great kit though thats what i bought for mine. just my 2 cents if you want to actually see anything higher than 8000 is just color.

Yeah the 30k HID's are a dark purple/violet... and the light they shine is pink... they will probably attract unwanted attention from the police, not to mention make it a little harder to see.

The 12K are purple, but they're nice with the right lense. It's kind of trial and error with this color range, as the manufacturers differ. Some of them are "BMW purple" and others are "pull-me-over purple"

Here is just one link for the lense housing, you can find much more searching "sealed beam conversion"

Run a search for " high intensity discharge" or "sealed beam HID"

this place has kits that have existed for a long time (and not a lot of people knew about them) but they are expensive..... at least it may give you some ideas

there are so many places

When you need to find out what size bulb (for the HID kit) you will need to get
1990-1991.... H4
1992+.... 9006 low 9005 high

hope that helps

OK, here is a more direct link to the POPUP 91 1Ga replacement headlight offerings:

Question- has anyone put in the Bi-Xenon lights in their DSM? And are they any better than a normal H4 HID conversion install (using replacement rectangle reflectors and separately installed H4 bulbs/ballast etc)?

As you can see, there is a $250-$300 added cost for going to the Bi-Xenon. That's huge, unless it's amazing lighting...
