WTF No Modified Exhausts in MA

Hey guys I got pulled over the other day in my winter beater that happens to have a fart cannon on it . He mostly pulled me over because my inspection sticker is kinda hard to read. I got a new windshield and the guy tried transferring it to the new one (poorly). Anyways he said my exhaust is illegal and I have until monday to get a stock one put on or he's going to give me a ticket everytime I pass him. He sits at an intersection on my way to school. Its only because its the end of the month and they are trying to meet their quota. He won't be there for long. The guys at my local gas station have been giving me a hard time about it for a couple years now saying they shouldn't really pass me for inspection with my exhaust. Even if the silencer is in.

Can they start targeting us now for having a modified exhaust? To my knowlege they can't force you to get a stock exhaust. They can just keep giving you tickets until you get sick of it though.

It just pisses me off because this state is getting more and more like California everyday .

They technically can't force you but by making you fail inspection and ticketing you you'll get tired of it and change over. General Laws: CHAPTER 90, Section 16

Unfortunately, this has been a problem with Mass for the last 10+ years . It mostly applies to State police, as town cops almost never bust people for this BS law.

Techically, ANY aftermarket exhaust are not allowed. But where, in the hell, are you are going to find a stock exhaust for 20 year old 1G?

So you have to find the quietest system and then paint it black, so you do not attract attention. Even then, you have to have keep it as quiet as possible when you are around staties...

If you do not like it? Get NH plates

The part that really kills me is that if you own a mustang with straight pipes or a harley that will shake your city block you wont get pulled over. But we get tickets for having wheels that are too shiny or whatever they feel like making up over their donut and coffee that morning....

We just have to deal with it and support any future efforts to change the law!

get a electric exhaust cut out. put it right after the header and put a quiet tip on. cops wont know whats going on. and if it makes you feel better i get harrassed all the time up here for my mustang. but she is very loud

i have friends with mustangs. i have nothing against them, its just cops seem to be way too biased to pulling over a kid in a 4 cylinder with a muffler as opposed to anyone with a straight pipe...

Actually I have a 3inch from turbo back but it has a flowmaster muffler and sounds nice(not raspy or anoying). Got pulled over by a Mass State Trooper once and he asked me if it was after market and I said "nope just a leak". He let me go right on my way.

On my old 2G non-turbo I got hasseled all the time by those State troopers cause I had a fart pipe . They really dont like them around here . Good thing I have family in Holyoke Police Dep that always helps .

It isn't any better in Merrimack valley, ether. Staties are brutal around here . Watch out if you come up north on 495 or Rt 3 on your way to NED.

But I hear that other areas (Fall River/NB) are not that bad.

I'm just going to get an electronic cutout in the spring and have a quiet muffler welded to the end of my 3 inch catback. Does anybody know what the quietest 3 inch muffler is with dual tips? I want something that looks like the stock eclipse muffler. Are exhaust cutouts illegal in MA? I'm sure they are so I will have to make it removable for inspection time.

Ive had no trouble in the new bedford area and I run a straight 3in. the only trouble ive had is music too loud but in new bedford mustangs can rip tires and have the loudest exhausts but cops just give a thumbs up. Its pretty retarted if you ask me but i just throw it in neutral and roll bye and smile .

i had somone threaten to fail me because my car is lowered...pretty pathetic if you ask me so i would assume that e cutouts are certainly illegal..
