SORRY FOR THE TYPO **WEIRD**:cry:i just bought my tsi awd yesterday so i dont really know that much about dsm's anyways this guy supposidly rebuilt the engine. anyways first gear my turbo spools fine then second gear its ok until about 3 1/2 and then past that it starts to sputter and chug maybe even hesitate a little bit 3rd 4 and 5th are like this even when i give it only about half throttle. i searched the forums all last night and even this morning and i think it might be a fuel cut? or a boost leak. but i really dont know what it is or what i am looking to when searching because i just got a dsm yesterday:talon:

*symptoms and notes*
-car pulls hard fine in 1st gear
-2nd 3rd 4th and 5th around 3 1/2 on to redline it sputters and hesitates (when turbo is -almost full boost)
-if i give it a little bit of gas in any of those gears it spools and pulls fine
-maybe a boost leak or a fuel cut?
- car is all stock except for a BOV

any ideas? again im sorry if this was covered already but i couldnt seem to find it

Check for boost leaks as that is most likely the cause of your problem.
A quick search would yeild many threads on how to build a boost leak tester and perform this test.

What type of BOV are you using?
Is your BOV recirculated back onto the intake like it should be?
Is your BOV set correctly and functioning correctly? (having the settings too soft will alow the BOV to open prematurely, a malfunctioning BOV could have the same effect.)

First you need to give people more time to reply. It could take a few days. What type of turbo is on there? if it is stock how many miles are on it? you may want to take off your intake and try to see if there is a lot of shaft play. I had the same problem but when I replaced the turbo it was gone. Good Luck

diablos991: im not sure what bov im using, but i do beleive it is recirculated back to the intake, im not sure what setting my bov is on, but the hiss is not very loud at all and it only really hisses when i go above 4 or 5 which leads me o beleive its almost all the way closed..

thorlief: yup i have the stock t25 turbo on her, i looked up how to make a home made boost leak tester : http://www.vfaq.com/mods/ICtester.html
and the guy supposidly rebuilt the engine but i think the turbo still has the same amount of miles that the chassis does, which would be 103xxx, i have yet to check for shaft play, i know that side to side movement is bad and a little up and down movement is ok is that correct?

A little in and out isnt bad but the side to side rubs and will hinder the spinning. Is this a consistant thing or does it go away sometimes? Possibly after it is warm and been a running awhile?

Not correct.
A little in and out is not allowable, and indicates possible worn seals.
A little side to side is alright so long as the compressor and turbine wheel don't come into contact with the respective housings.

What color is the BOV?
You can tell if it is recirculated because there will be a big tube running from the BOV into the intake tube.
I am still leaning towards you having a nasty boost leak. Check to make sure all your piping from your turbo to your intercooler to your intake are connected securely and if possible perform a boost leak test as soon as possible.
