Widest tire on a 7" wide rim

Alright, yes I did a search, and I found some relavant info but nothing definitive. I'm quite sure this has come up before, so I'm just looking for a quick answer. In December I bought a set of rims without really doing my homework, so I have to live with 17x7" rims, rather than 17x7.5's or 17x8's...but now that the semester is over I have some money to put some meats on these babies, but I'm not sure as to what size i should go with. I don't mind a little tire bulge, I'd rather gash a sidewall than dent in a rim, so bulge isn't an issue. What size would give me the maximum stability in corners and traction on a 7" rim? thanks in advance.

go with 225/45/17 .if you use 235/45 they will bulge out..

I bought the the ST115 for the rear cuz they last long, it like them its a sorta soft compound. pulled low 2.3 60s on them so far
