Why We Should Start an RI DSM Club

I am a member of New Enland DSM and it is a great club with much to offer. The members there will feel like RI does not need to be represented with it's own club, because they cater to the entire area. This is kind of true. Kind of.

While everyone in RI is welcome at their events and meetings, they are tailored to the Northern Mass and NH region where most of their members reside. It is almost always an hour ride to a gathering in the winter at some restaurant and during the summer all club meetings are almost 2 hours out at the track.

We would have a small member base in Rhode Island, this is true. However, we could use it to support local DSMers, create meets locally that we can have weekly or monthly and not need to plan a whole day of travel around it.

My buddy and myself run a small side business SK Automotive (also known as Street Kings Tuning) and we could use this opportunity to expand services that we offer (both of us certified mechanics) to create a DSM devoted shop in the area. Not to mention our only local forum is They try to be the King, but the Ace is back! Rhode Island Street Racing for the car culture and the forum is a joke and very biased against us DSMers.

I own www.ridsm.org. I can have us forums up in no time, we will start everyone on an equal level, and then as we grow and people expand and show their good judgement and knowledge we can begin to select moderators, and people who are referred to as some sort of local DSM guru and such.

PM me if you want to do this. I won't put up forums on my server unless I see some dedication.

I have some forums up, I am still making minor changes to them, but for the most part they are fully functional.

i'm definitely in for stating a club, I know a few people with dsm's in RI that would be in as well. We should have a meeting to get things going and get some ridsm.com stickers for our cars to get the word around

I will handle getting us stickers as I have a vendor who basically does them for free for me. I will start getting the site domain out. I encourage you to apply to the forums and send everyone this way.

I will bump every first adopter's post count to 25 so they are not in new member status. Try to get as many people to apply as possible.

We can discuss a tentative first sit down here, place and time to be determined. Then we will decide on a few moderators to get started. Obviously I am administrator, I have a buddy who I will make moderator. If you are serious about this ttetzner I will make you a moderator and allow you to choose one of your buddies to be a moderator as well. Then no new mods or admins until we expand.

It's a decent number. I know over 15 myself.

I plan on resolving this problem by expanding to Evos, 3KGTs, GVR4s, 420A (Mitsu and Dodge), and SRT-4 guys as we all belong on a similar path of knowledge.

The point is to organize the local scene for meets and hanging out in between NEDSM which is my main club.

I don't want to impede on that group, so we will strictly adhere to their events and schedule nothing opposed to them. I will also encourage people to register there.

I just don't want to have to drive 100 miles 1 way each time I want to just relax with people who share my hobby.

I am not opposed to people being members there either. I just want something in RI for RI. Especially when the only forum we have locally is crappy 401 Motion infested with Honda owners making dumb crankwalk comments while asking for our injectors and turbos.

Then i will be all set another thing is my cars really not show worthy but other than that im good. I have no problems with wives and girlfriends, they are a major part of our lives and suffer heavily from our addiction.

Would like to get more members into this, this is open to Evo's, SRT-4s and 3000 GT / Stealth guys too. Also Northern CT and Southern MA are welcome.

Providence/Newport are good areas to visit and have gatherings during the good months. I always am willing to travel down to RI for a meet, just as long as other RI DSMers are willing to come up to the Worcester County area every once in a while too.

Don't know if you want the club specifically named "RI DSM" though. Doesn't exactly give the impression of open arms to the EVO/WRX/STI owners, even though a number of us will (or already have) upgrade to EVOs in the future. If at all possible, you may consider changing it to something more "unifying". Have a number of EVOs and such attended "DSM" meets (or "DSM Only" meets)? Sure, and will continue to do so. But you will get a much more expanded crowd and more variety of car owners if the site's name was more generalized. Just a thought.

Just wanted to point out the fact that RIDSM was already a club based out of Warwick.... The guy who ran it still ownes a registered copywrite and trademark on the name so you might deffantly want to change the name. I actualy know the owner and a few members. Most of them moved over to New England Tunerz and now my club since NETZ is no longer a club.

But keep me updated on any DSM meets you guys put together, the Abducted Crew will deffantly be down to come hang out.

You can't just claim you are copyrighted and trademarked. There is actual legal paperwork that has to be filed for that. However, I will register it as a non-profit organization to legalize it.

I never claimed to be anything... I'm just telling you that some one has already started RIDSM and they are claiming the rights to it. Take it for what its worth. If you can leaglize it as your own thing, more power to you.
