hello all you stand alone guys...

I have a GST Spyder with some mods...

Mods include:
780 cc injectors
255 walbro fuel pump
SAFC-II
60-1 turbo
Spearco Intercooler ( FMIC)
Apexi intercooler piping
Greddy BOV
Exedy 3 puck clutch

Now with that in mind, I would like to know what is best for my :dsm: .

This summer, I am planning to run with the big boys ( 1/4 mile ) and hoping to be around the 12's or maybe 11's if lucky.

The real question is, Should I go for the AEM EMS, or DSMLink ?
Please tell me the advantages for both... as well as the disadvantages ( if there is any )

Thanks all....
:dsm: Mark :dsm:

If you plan to run with the "big boys" you better make that car see 11's if not better.

Now to your questions... You understand there is a night and day difference with dsmlink vs ems, along with a dsmlink vs Safc???

Do your research, on this site and the dsmlink site then go to the ems site and look how much more complex it is. Plus I am guessing you will not be tuning this yourself, so is it worth paying someone to tune the ems every time you go to the track because conditions are different?

(Side note) Better have some nice slicks, with a built ass trans with an LSD in it.

Good luck

Why would he have to retune every time he goes to the track because the conditions are different? I'm not sure I get what you are saying.
As for the questions regarding the AEM vs. dsmlink. It really depends on a lot of things. The aem is going to cost at least 2.5 times more than the dsmlink. Tuning is going to be more accurate with the aem and there are a lot more options available with it, but to run 11's i don't think you really need it. The aem system is a lot more complex than the dsmlink. You can go to either website and download the software and compare the two.

well here is my plan... My major plan...

Start the AWD conversion for my GST Spyder this coming January.

I called JacksonAutoMachine (JAM) and I spoke to a woman over there and she said, they can build a motor for me, a 2.4 block bored .30 over, a full raced block ( stage 3 )
a stage 3 head and they said, and the portings and stuffs, hks 272 cams, etcs
a custom intake manifold, with 70 mm bbk throttle body,
AEM EMS, a COP ( Coil on Plug )

and then contacted Bushur Racing for the same Stage III full race setup, where for me its a little off my budget...

Contacted BM Tranny and John Shepherd for a full race awd tranny ( Comparison Prices)

and that is how i based my question

anyway.. I think AEM is the way to go.. a lot of people with dsm that uses AEM EMS and DSM Link say AEM is the way to go but for the price its a lot... wherein DSMLink, just tune it once, and let the computer do the thinking....

Anyway... I like hearing from you all

Thanks for helping a fellow :dsm: in need of advice

Thanks

its been done a bunch

there is a guy here with a white one used to run around on big chrome wheels fwd, spinnning, now he got a built motor and converted to awd, and putting down 400whp+, pretty clean for a convertable

I think the conv. has a different bottom then the rest of us gst folks which is more awd friendly, which is kinda cool, i wish we hardtop guys got that

As I look at my AWD Part car and my GST Spyder, I see similarities on the chassis, as well as the everysingle holes for the bolts...

I spoke to MLopez and he said the same thing... He is the one who is walking me to the conversion...

Soon my GST/X spyder will be rolling with all four...

why the hell would you go through all that trouble to make a spyder awd? you said you have a awd parts car cant you rebuild that or are you missing to many parts? the spyder already weighs 132 pounds more than the normal gst, becasue they tried to make it just as rigid even though it still isnt. so thats like having a awd plus another 132 pounds on the awd weight. IMO i never liked convertibles and never saw a convertible that looked more of a sports car than the orginal hardtop. like a vette conv. looks like crap compared to a hardtop same with a camero. I guess thats whhy supras never came in convertibles becasue they know a true sports/muscle car would look silly in a droptop.

First of, Thanks for the weight concern... :dsm:

as of now, I have to do some weight reduction on my DSM...

Secondly, I enjoy the top down in the summer I love the open top and the open road. I also like the winter.. crazy thing believe it or not, I miss my car when she is in the garage.

I experienced that this winter.... Everyday, I have to be in the garrage start the car, wax it, or just plain wiping of the dirt... and then blanket...

This car is like a baby :dsm:

So i decided to do an awd conversion... When it gets warmer, I am going to pick up the car and start taking parts off the parts car...

:thumb: Keep intouch and I am sure i will tell you details and details... give me a call to see whats up :thumb:

Later peeps

Yeah I'm in the same boat. I have a 98 gst and i put it away for winter, I also have a supra turbo to thats away in the winter and it kills me to let them stay there and not be driven. once every week i start them up andlet them warm up. Theres one thing that is good about putting them away in the winter, you get to work and upgrade them all winter long. but in the winter i have a 96 awd tsi so its not like i dont get to drive a dsm. my awd is stock but in good condition im waiting to mod it for summer though. keep us all updated on ur project.
