Just as the title says, I need to know where I can safely connect the factory amp turn on wire with a new headunit. My headunit has an unsued wire labeled dimmer and it is orange so i'm guessing its a power cord. Would it be ok to connect it to that, or do I have to splice? The only wires I have unused on the new Headunit is the power antenna (Don't listen to radio) and the dimmer wire. Factory wires has 2 unused as well, amp turn on and power antenna. Headunit gets power and does all it's suppose to, just no sound due to no amp power.

hook it to the power antenna wire, this is where most people hook up the remote wire for after market amps.

I connected the amp turn on and power antenna and no sound still. I didn't expect sound from the back speakers because i haven't messed with the amp yet, but still no sound from the front speakers. any ideas?

Not sure what to tell you because I've owned musltiple 2g's and have swapped out probably 7 or 8 head unit's over the years and i've always used a harness that mates up to the factory wire harness. I'm not sure if this is the route you're going and still having problems or not. Also, if you connected the amp to the power antenna power wire, wouldn't you amp only come on when the deck is sending a signal to raise the power antenna??

Additionally, this weekend I just changed out my carpet and when I was putting everything back together I decided to chuck the factory amp. Everything sounds exactly as it did before.

Question: Is this head unit you're trying to install brand new out of the box? If it's used, it's possible that the internal amp is fried (the HU's amp). This happened to me WAY back when I was 16 and tried intalling a deck. I accidently let a wire touch bare metal and it sparked. After that, everything turned on but I couldn't get any sound out of the speakers. A local electronics fix-it place tested it and told me that the internal amp was fried.

That's probably true about the power antenna thing, and the head unit is used but it looks to be in excellent shape, and the previous owner told me it still worked, but i don't know his setup. should I splice the turn amp on wire to a 12v wire? I'd like to forget the factory amp all together because i've heard it only complicates things and its a POS in the first place, but im not sure if I have an internal amp in the HU. (Pioneer DEH-P3600)

Well if all that fails then why dont you just hack into the yellow wire which is the remote power source. I do beleive that wire is 12V but only when the key is in the ACC or on position. That has been a way I have done it before in the past, but it is hard to believe that a newer HU doesnt have a remote amp wire to hook up too!

You could also just hack into the fuse box and run a wire from the radio fuse! I have done that before too.

All Head Units have an internal amp in them. The internal amp is the 50x4 or whatever your deck may say.
.

Wrong, not ALL head units have internal amps. Check out some of the Eclipse decks. And other top of the line decks. They have no built in amps, but really nice high voltage preouts, they are definitely for competition and for true audiophiles who simply want the best, in which case external amps are expected to be used.

And its 50watt MAX x 4, rms is much lower, about 15-22 real watts.

I stand corrected. I did not know this. And when i said 50X4 I was only referring to the numbers that are sometimes located on the outside of the deck. I did not state that the actual RMS is much lower, just to keep confusion to a minimum.

But thanks for the info on the Eclipse, etc decks having no internal amps! :thumb:
