ok i was looking around and im curious what the difference is with the knock off greddy type rs bovs for 48 bucks and the real deal for 180, i did do a search and basically what i found is this- the knock off uses plastic internals and the real one doesnt, is this right? and if its true what does this mean, does it mean that the knock off will probably fail on me or what

If you're referring to the ebay type Greddy RS BOV, I can 99% assure you that it is the same as the real deal, I actually inquired about this and the only difference, I am told by a Greddy rep, is that the ebay knock off, does NOT come with the Greddy label on it, you have to put it on. I bought one for a buddy's 91 Supra Turbo and he then bought the real deal for comparison, we found them to be the same internally. Hope this helps you out man.

The "bladders" are known to fail on the knock offs. You can purchase the greddy bladder(which is of better quaility) somewhere, not to sure where though.

The diaphragm on the knock-off is not oil resistant and is made of inferior material in comparison to the Greddy diaphragm. If the BOV is exposed to oily residue (as often happens in our cars due to the VC breather) and is combined with the heavy duty cycle that a BOV membrane undergoes, the diaphragm has a good chance of failing.

The fix is to purchase a new Greddy oil-resistant diaphragm from Greddy or a reputable vendor. These usually sell for about $60-80.

See this post by DiamondStarM from this thread about the knock-off BOV's.

The point is, the knock-off's are NOT carbon copies, and most likely WILL fail at a much greater rate than the real Greddys. Of course, there are some people who have used them and had no problems with them... yet. Regardless, whatever BOV you get, recirculate or buy a recirculation kit for it until you get the proper mods to vent to atmosphere properly, if that's your goal.

I agree with the above. I personally have an HKS knockoff, and it works great. If I would've had $200+ extra to spend on a BOV I would've gotten the real thing. (my crushed 1g was leaking BAD)

I got the BOV, 1g-HKS adapter flange, and the recirc fitting all for about $70. I'm an auto though, so I hardley ever use the BOV at all, so I am not as worried about it. If my car was a manual, I'd go with something better. On my TSI I had a modded 1g, and it worked great. I honestly would suggest the 1g BOV, especially with the low amount of boost you'll actually be running
