What year does the 4g63 come in the awd tsi or any eclipse?
is this the most upgradeable engine i can get?

RESEARCH. The 4g63T comes in EVERY TURBO model DSM. ( 90 - 99 laser eclipse or talon, galant VR4 too) And the 4g63 n/t comes in 90-94 n/t models. It is all a matter of preferance. You can go 2.4 ( 6 bolt) and that will give you some worthy numbers.. but then you are held down by lower rev limits. The 2.0 4g63T motor can rev higher and thats why ppl like brent rau use that over the 4g64. Learn, do research. Your going to get flamed asking some VERY easy to answer on your own questions like that.

6 bolt ( bettER) is from 90-92.5, then switched to the more pathetic 7 bolt from 92.5 - 99.

thx i though so but was just making sure. I really dont know why ppl buy evos. unless they are rly into auto x and stuff

Evo has similar motor but its different. It spins like 180 degrees the other way. ITs a newer car. Some ppl like awd turbo 2004 cars versus 99 and down.

Why is the 2.4 held back by lower rev limits? I would like this explained to me. I also want to know, conclusively why a 6 bolt is "better" than a 7 bolt.

6 bolts can handle heavier clutches and a rebuild. very few can make a 7 bolt last when heavily modded. Do a search. I could go on for hours about this. Crankwalk is more prone to a 7 bolt engine than a 6 bolt. 6 bolts can walk to, they just dont as often. Its all in the assembly in my point of view, and a 7 bolts main girdle is a major PITA to align correctly.

2.4 has more rotating mass, because of the larger displacement. That is more stressing on your motor which puts a cage ( so to speak) around how far you can rev safely.

You do make a good point in this post about the girdle. Perhaps you're not as green as I thought. I've been here a while and know a thing or two about DSM's. I just usually hear some noob come here and say "7 bolts suck cause I read 3 other people say it". I personally don't buy that whole 7 bolts are crap thing, if mine ever goes out it will be replaced by a built 7 bolt, albeit one with a main bearing alignment kit. As far as the larger motor not being able to rev as high, that's not exactly true. It all depends on the rod ratio and piston speed when you really get up there. Ask Swordfish if his long rod 2.4 likes the high RPM.

you can do it, but its not safe. Why do you think v8s redline so low? 5.5 is a common redline for a v8 car and my grand prix gt redlines at 6.3.. i duno, im no professional by any means but i have a ready to build 7 bolt just chillin, but i decided 6 bolt is just smarter. And it has not been proven and i hang out at shops that have tried.. and tried.. yet they always walk. You can do a twin plate clutch, use that procedure that NOS made in some forum on here i can link you if you want, you can use a lightened flywheel.. you can use h rated barings.. but it still always fails in less than 20k miles. And its always the thrust barings that go.. which is a walk. So i dont know, do the research.. shop around alot. I think you could spend that money for your manifold in other places and get more power. Even things like the moroso oil pan would be money better spent. Never forget that making your car dependable is a very important thing as well. And yes, you can have a 400 + hp car be dependable, you just have to stay on top of things.

V8's have a harder time revving high because it's a different motor. V configuration motors are less balanced than inline motors. Not to mention the valvetrain, pushrods don't like sky high RPM. But there are exceptions. Look at Nascar, they spend all day around 8 grand with pushrod, carboreuted V8's. Also take a look at Ford's modular engines, some are revving to 7k stock. So just the theory that the bigger the motor means a lower rev range doesn't stick. It's also about power delivery, HP is a by product of TQ and RPM. Since 4cyl motors generally don't make much TQ you need to rev them higher to make HP, on the other hand most V8's make tremendous TQ at low RPM, in turn they make lots of HP at low RPM. If you're already making 500 horsies and 500 lb/ft at 2.5k why rev all the way to 7k? :thumb:
