Trenton,
Was there not a thread like this somewhere on this board? Its prolly right infront of my face but I skipped by it, can someone point me in the direction of this thread?

If there isnt can someone name a list of what to check throughly when buying a dsm, other then the normal stuff u should check on any other car...

Thanks

Andrew

What are you looking for in a DSM is the first thing?

Do you want all out performance? Styling?

A 1g or 2g?

Give us an idea of which DSM you want and we'll help you with the specifics on it.

Take it from me, don't buy any DSM that hasn't had the routine maintenance done[ Ie oil change every 3000, timing belt aroud every 60,000 etc ]

Also make sure there are no leaks, and that rust is kept to a minimal amount, and not in any major areas.

Drive it, and see how it feels.

CEL being on is bad, and don't trust what the owner says 'is the cause' as he is most likely lying.

If you get the inclination the overall car is crap, do not buy it. Do not jump on it just because it is a DSM right in front of you that you can afford. I know it can be hard to resist, but take your time when purchasing a DSM, and make sure the car overall 'feels' good to you.

I bought a car that looked like crap didn't run and generally smelled like ass for 1300$... I fixed it up and it runs awesome and is pretty damn fast and is worth 3 times as much now :)

Really depends on how much time you want to spend on making the car to your specs... engine replacement isn't TOO hard or expensive so even if it was run down into the ground, its not TOO expensive to replace it as long as your patient.

DSM's are reliable if taken care of properly... if its your only daily driver then don't get it unless its had preventive maintenance otherwise you might be asking for trouble.

The #1 I'd say when purchasing a turbo'd DSM is WHAT has the previous owner done to the car, beat the crap out of it? You should be able to tell. Do NOT get a car you know has been driven and beaten to death its NOT worth it in most cases..shit I've spent $12K on this car.
