What to look for in purchasing a DSM?

Hey whats going on guys, Im new to the forum as well as to DSM's. Im going to look at a 95 GSX with a 6bolt swap tomorrow. its 7500 and Im wondering what should i look for...? I know about the obvious rpm spikes, oil/cracks in the valve cover.. however what minor imperfections in running/appearance or leaks could lead to big problems in the future. I herd a few criticize my want for a DSM with the saying "DSM= Dedicated to spending money". I hope i don't end up buying a bad car.. never the less hope you have something to say, anything would be helpful considering this is my first car purchase.
