Ok, I have seen a few videos with cars making this sound, not to mention the eclipse on fast and the furious. What is that metallic/clanking sound caused by when shifting. It is definitely not a BOV, it sounds like a kit on the shifter that causes two pieces of metal to clunk together when it is thrown into gear. I think it sounds pretty cool, and its been bugging me since I saw fast and the furious. Help me. :barf: :thumb:

You know what, come to think of it, that is PRECISELY what it is... God, I feel like a moron. All this time I was thinking the sound was the clanking of metal, when it was quite obviously the laptop displaying an error message. Wow, thanks a lot, man! You've opened my eyes in a way I never before thought possible!!! Is it ok for me to PM you for tips? Because I have a hunch my windshield bearings are about to go out. Thanks again, problem solved...

I thought the shifter bushings were only for mounting of the shifter assembly. I don't understand how if nothing contacts them during a shift, it can make a metallic sound. Please explain.

sure! i'll give ya all the tips you need....here's a few

1. stop watching f&f
2. stop watching f&f
3. check your boost fluid
4. sell your car to someone who't not an idiot, because obviously you should not be touching your dsm (or any car for that matter.)

have a nice day!

my cousins GS makes a barely audible clank if he shifts it hard enough. so inaudible, only i heard it, and its his car and he never noticed it(cause my gst shifter is super quiet).

more than likely that "clank" is just a special effect to make the car sound like it has a hurst like shifter from the old days.

Thank you loads for all of your help. Your vast knowledge is something we all strive for and hope to one day harness. I'm incredibly sorry that I posted a problem on this help forum. From now on I will strictly post issues that you personally approve of, in an effort to one day live up to your standards as one who may be able to once again attempt to be smart enough to ask a simple question. Once again, your help was invaluable, in a good way I assure you. ;)

Will do... But I think you have done enough thinking for one day, give that huge brain of yours a rest. :shhh: Does anyone have any replies that are either helpful or that do not sound as if they were cooked up by the mind of a 9 year old? Because to be honest, thats what I was really looking for. If I want any more of your opinions, Mr. Whitboy, I will sooner ask a colostomy bag, as your both full of the same answers.

now this might be off the subject a lil BUT>> old american muschle cars used to make that sound when they shifted. Ill ask my dad what its called. I know exaclty what you are tlaking about and yes it is very awsome
if your a dork and you play computer games need for speed underground does it too..so im sure we'll find it..just be patient.

P.s f@f was the shit. Should make a third one

its called a HURST shifter. they clicked when they properly sat in the gear. they made them for things like chevelles, cause you could literally throw the shifter past the gear and through the console. also if you want to hear this sound, watch "gone in 60 seconds" with nicholas cage and teh oh so hott angolina jolie. watch the eleanor boost you can hear it click, and its a real hurst shifter, and sounds just like the F&F one. i believe they made that sound to make the eclipse out to be the "muscle car" of a new generation.

and possibly metal bushings do make the noise also. though havent heard the sound first hand.

F&F was a great movie, not cause of the cars/scene though, just cause it was a badass movie. 2F2F was a lame excuse of acting and CG rendering and shouldve never even made it past a storyboard.
F&F3 is being shot right now and stars Vin Diesel again(how 2 should have really been) in tokyo. expect lots of jaydem and drifting madness, more tuner related and less rice, aka no retarted body kits and lights.

think about it this way... not all cars are the same... lots of cars make a CHINK sound as they go into gear, especially one's that are getting to need a tranny rebuild...

ALL MOVIE SOUNDS ARE SPECIAL EFFECTS!!!

The people who create them are called foley artists and they are less concerned with reality than audience expectations of what a sound should sound like.

THe chink is associated with highend or performance cars b/c of the ferrarri hurst shiftered cars etc, so they put it in.

Removing the rubber shifter bushings might make the shifter "snick" audibly when shifting, but only inside the car... you generally hear it more when it is a direct adn not a cable connection to the tranny
