well i head out this morning to begin my "Winter tune" and the first road i turned on, my gas pedal floored itself and pegged out the rpms and i couldnt get it to break loose so i pulled over and had the car towed home, the spring on the TB works just fine... but i did just replace my motor mounts with polyurethane ones, so maybe i damaged the tb cable somewhere in the process, now i can press my gas pedal a little bit but i cant get it to rev any.... thanks guys

That must have been scary. I was first thinking of something with the cruise control got effed up. Did you take your throttle body off at all? I took mine apart to put new shaft seals on. When I put the plate back on, I had to make sure it was perfect, like absolutely perfect. Caust if the plate is off just one bit, you wont be able to rev it, or worst, it will get stuck open.

Take your elbow off, and see where the plate looks, and see if you can move it by hand.

i did START to take it off during my motor mount install, i was going to replace the intake manifold

but i put it back on to fool with later... all i did was take the throttle cable off but i put it back on and drove it for 2-3 days running perfect, didnt do it till this morning, i can goto the TB and rev the engine up all i want

but i did unbolt that cruise control box thats close to the fuse box, to get it out of my way and it got moved around alot, and i started unbolting the cable box next to the tb on the firewall but never fully removed it,

where should i start looking to trouble shoot?

check the throttle cable itself. how cold was it when you drove it and it took a sh*t on you?? i had a problem with one of my cars that when it got cold the throttle cable would stick sometimes. maybe look into that a little bit. have a buddy sit in the car and press the gas and look and see what it's doing around the throttle body when he does that.

i have a 98 gs-t also, the first recall i had, even before the lower control arm/ball joint recall, was for a grommet/bushing where the throttle cable passed through the firewall. dealer said it was because the throttle could get stuck open. i bought my 98 in nov 97 and it was recalled and fixed before i made the first note on it (within 45 days).

it was probably the coldest that i have ever driven the car this morning, so that may be it. but i will see if that grommet is holding it in the way. ugh this sucks :( thanks guys, any more ideas throw them out there

alright well i looked on the back of my tb and see that the nut thats on the spring thing is gone. can anyone tell me the size of the nut? im lost since the threads are flat on 2 of the sides, and how do i need to go about tightening it correctly??? thanks

A Haynes Manual might be something you want to invest in as well. Even with all the aftermarket parts and tuning, it is something great to fall back on. They tell you every technical and statistical thing about your car, even troubleshooting, with step by steps on how to correct the problem. You can buy them at virtually any auto parts store in the U.S. They have helped me out alot in finding anything, and even ASE master mech's will tell you the same thing. I am sure you have heard this once or twice before. :talon:

I dont know the size of it. Its better to tighten it with the throttle body off. Cause if you tighten it too much, you could possible put too much pull on the shaft. This could possibly allow the throttle plate to get stuck while giving it throttle. With your hand make sure you can give it WOT and it will go back to closed throttle nice and smoothly.

LOL i should put a haynes manual in as one of my mods, i had the manual before i bought the car

but yeah i gotta find that nut and i should be all set, i dont know how to tighten it right, but ill find out once i find a nut that fits... thanks guys
