What Happened to my starter

Well my starter began to get harder and harder to start, so instead of taking the time to take it off and do the right thing i just continued to drive it into the ground. Then out of nowhere WTF it stopped working(as if i didnt expext it), I didnt have the money to replace what i thought was a bad starter so i parked the car and fixed my other vehicle. Now three months later and I am really missing my TSI so i pulled the starter to see if i can fix it myself and here it what i found all, two of the tranny bolt are MIA both starter bolt are loose and the sarter looks like this please tell me what happened

it looks like when the started was loose and you cranked it over it would shoot out and hit part of the tranny and warp it

it could also be that the started was angled weird and when you went to crank it over it would be pressing against the tranny and warp
