I'm trying to learn as much as I can so this is why I am asking a seemingly dumn question. What does "ported" mean?

porting is the removal of superfluous material from areas of the intake and exhaust tract.
you would port an exhaust manifold to improve the flow by removing un-needed material.
you can port almost anything, but you should only port them to a safe size. bigger is not always better.
porting is done most often with an electric or air die grinder and the bits depend on what you are porting.
single or double cut carbide for cast steel, aluminum oxide for aluminum and to smooth steel.
porting can be a pain but can also be very rewarding when you do it your self.

cliff notes: porting is making free HP by opening up certain intake and exhaust items
(EX manifold, o2 housing, turbing side)

hope this helped!

The terms "Ported", "To Port", "Porting" describe the aftermarket modification of a component that transfers liquid or air by the removal of material to promote, increase or otherwise aid internal flow or transitional flow to a neighboring component.

For our application this term is often used to describe purposeful modification to the inlet/outlet "ports" or internal passageways on certain cast engine pieces (head, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, turbo housings) to increase flow/performance of the piece. This can be done with carbide cutting bits, sand rolls, file, laithe or even a multi-axis CNC machine :dsm:

**was beat to the post..damn my slow typing ;) **

hope this helped

your next thread should be either "how do i port" or "whats the best tool for porting"

this will give you a lot of feedback such as links to porting directions and tools to buy for the job.
