On the front of my manual transmisson there is some sort of a counter weight that works in conjunction with the shifter. I was wondering what it's exact purpose was?

I can snap a quick pic if needed.

It's in case you're on the high plains and some hornswaggler rustles your doggies and you don't want to use the butt of your pistol to tack up the wanted posters.

It's just one of the many bizarro-world things they did to the 2Gs to make them more dainty for all the little girls they knew would be buying them.

Taking it off may give you a slightly different shifter feel, but I'm sure you'd forget about it within a week. Its only apparent purpose is to absorb the kind of judder you'd feel on a missed shift as the teeth try desperately to mesh under load.

It is there because they built the car to be compatible with non-performance guru's. You should remove it, all the cool kids are doing it.
