im getting ready to purchase a 97 tsi awd, i was wondering which brake pads you guys recommend...

i was thinking axxis ultimates or ebc green's

any other suggestions, and are they needed on the rear also. or should i just get the fronts

Axxis and EBC's are real good pads, I opted for Bendix Ceramic Pads from local autoparts store simply because I needed brakes quick and at the time I didn't had time to wait for shipping, they have worked great for me so far, I can actually keep my wheels clean, and with the cross drilled rotors they seem to work just fine, No probs here.

I have the same pads and they haven't given me any problems either.

ok, but are good pads also needed for the rears as well?

i'll probably get ebc greens

I went with these:

The Akebono pads, coupled with my Brembo slotted, dimpled rotors is incredible. I never knew my Spyder could stop so well.

Also, over the past couple of month (maybe 700 miles), I have seen virtually no wear on the rotors and I don't have to scrub all that black crap off the rims every time I give her a bath.

if it's just a street ride you can't go wrong with metal masters. we sell dozens of those a week and we love them. If you want something a little stronger the Ultimates are a great choice and if you want what i feel are the best then go with the Hawk HPS. Any of those three are good.

I'm also looking for new pads since my brakes are squeeky. I've never changed my pads before but I hear it's pretty easy. But what if you need you rotors turned? I was also wondering if you need the rear pads too.

I'm also looking for new pads. Probably going to go with the Hawk HPS' and try them out on my 1g. I've heard good things about them. On my RSX Type S I had the Porterfield RS pads and I really liked them. They did dust a bit though.

I think when you replace your pads it is usually a good idea to resurface the rotors. I could be wrong though. Maybe that's only when the rotor has rust on it.

Nayr747: I think it would be best to do the fronts and rears at the same time, but I'd imagine you could just do the fronts and be fine (depending on how much of your rear pads are left) since the fronts do most of the braking work.

generally you will go through 2 sets of fronts for every 1 set of rears. but best to check the rear when doing the front.
