what could it be? i used to use Mobile 1 oil. . .but the i read that royal purple oil was suppouse to be better. . .my lifter used to never tick. . .now it does. . .could it be that i just shouldnt have switch oil?. . .now am thinking amsoil because what i have heard and read the status on the oil(i did a search on here) . . . but bottom line what would u do?

one more thing. . .changeing your cams. . . .with barley any mods. . .is it good for the car?''

thanks again guys.

no matter what oil I used my lifters would tick, just whenever i switched oils it would just slow the ticking down or stall it. Your best bet is just getting the 3g lifters,

but my opinion is stay synthetic

Mine still tick a little too with Mobile 1. Cams are a great upgrade when you have a bigger turbo. The t25 is already weak and falls on its face well before redline, with cams it would fall on its face even harder! Cams increase your powerband but mostly in the later part of the powerband and you need a turbo that will allow you to hold boost closer to redline. Get a bigger turbo (Evo 3 or close to it) and then some cams. When you have a bigger turbo the cams compliment the turbo and the turbo compliments the cams. First you need fuel upgades like fuel pump+rewire, injectors and s-afcII logger combo or something close to that.

keep useing the same oil you always used in the car,the motor wears to the things you do to it on a reagular basis. its like living in a place that stays between 70-80 degrees then one day it drops to 50 degrees ,it take a bit to get used to.

I use Royal Purple and am happy with the results... no problems, no lifter tick, etc. That said, if you were doing fine before (w/Mobil 1), just swith back.

As everybody has said i would use the same oil you have ever used. Also you could replace your lifters with the non ticking lifters if you have the money. But personally if that "restorer" from wal mart really works i would give that a shot especially if its backed my a number of other dsmers.

Standard fix for DSM lifter tick (if you don't want to replace lifters) is "Restorer" from Walmart. Works with every dsm'r whose tryed it (and me) and is Defiant approved (need I say more?).

Hey man just wondering, what is the walmart restorer name brand because i have a first first gen that needs some restorer love LOL.

i've never had a problem with royal purple, both on high-reving, high compression NA tuned Honda motors (yeah, i used to be a JDM Honda WHORE) and on turbo'd DSM's.

It's very possible that your lifter tick has nothing to do with your changing oils....even if the lifter tick started after switching oil types. i agree with the other members: try the "restore" trick.

as far as modding a fairly stock 4G63, this is a pretty good guide/path:

basically the money you spend on cams won't do as much for power gains (at this point) as another mod for the same or similar price or less WILL. i believe Forced Performance's Big 28 turbos (direct bolt on upgrade, no other necessary mods) are now to the point where the price will be close to a set of new HKS cams.
