Well it all started a couple days ago when I was driving home in a big rain storm. It was raining so hard I couldnt see and I drove thorough a huge puddle and my car died. It took awhile but I got it started, but a lot of white smoke came from the exhaust. Now that I got it home the engine is knocking really bad. Any ideas what to do?

My friend drove through a big puddle and sucked up some water and he ended up buying a used motor off ebay because it was either that or a rebuild. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst. Good luck.

Bent rod or washed out bearings. In other words you motor is in need of a rebuild.

You probably messed it up when you tried to start it after driving thru the puddle and it dying.
It would have been advised you removed all the spark plugs and cranked the motor over to get any water out of the cylinders before starting it. Remember water doesn't compress.

So in the off chance water does get into your engine taking out the spark plugs and cranking it will prevent dammaged caused by water getting into the engine?

yes sir i also agree with phunny, at my dealership around the rainy season, we usually get two or three cars that need an engine replacement for getting hydrolocked, all covered by the insurance. every single cent is covered!!

well hell im gonna go hydrolock my motor and get the money because i have a built motor :). But 99ILeclipse you want to built it forged. Eagle h beam rods. and a good set of pistons, either JE, Wiseco, or CP. good bearings like ACL, Celective. and bore the block .020

Just a question for you. Do you have a long route Cold Air Intake?

If so, that is probably what caused it in the first place as the filter is sitting close to the ground.

(I used to have a 420A and this worried the hell out of me)

I would look into getting rid of it in favor of something shorter. Even if you build the motor with super-duper rods, awesome-sweet pistons, and teflon coated space bearings, you'll hydro-lock the motor again.
