My 91 awd makes a wierd vibration rattle noise on deceleration only in gear around 35-50 it happens (I haven't taken it over 50 yet). Now when the car is out of gear or in neutral is wont make the noise. I've checked the exhaust, tightend every bolt that I could. I drained the fluid out of the transfer case and it was only about a 1/4-1/2 qt of fluid, and it was black with grey/silver fog to it. I filled it up with some new oil, went out and drove it and the same noise was there. With the noise only being in gear I'm thinking it is either a transfercase or a tranny. My tranny was recently done be Shepard and I don't think that is the problem. Anybody have this same problem or any ideas?

I seem to be having the same problem you are describing. When you let of the gas over like 3500 rpm i have a loud vibation noise which seems to be comming from the tranny. I recently replaced the clutch and i was thinking that had something to do with it. I have no idea what to do about it other than see if it goes away after clutch is fully broke in.

what clutch did you use? I have a 6 puck, which I doubt would make this noise but I've never had a puck disk before so maybe.

I have the exedy stage 2 clutch. The disc itself is triangle shaped. Not sure if it has to do with the noise though. It just sounds as if the noise is coming from my bell housinng and that clutch is the only new part i put in.

That would be a little wierd as it has about 100 mi on it. I just highly doubt that is it. Now my car is getting a new transfer case so we will see if that solves it.

try to adjust the position of your exhaust its probably being torque and rubbing against the driveshaft.
