I'm trying to fix the various small scratches on my red GS-T using genuine mitsubishi touchup paint.

The scratches all are through the original paint.

The touchup paint works fine on the plastic parts, where white is showing in the scratch.

But it doesn't seem to cover the scratches in the door, where a darker color (bare metal?) shows through. When the paint goes on, it almost seems transparent, as the dark scratch shows right through the paint.

I've tried multiple coats, and it just ends up looking far worse. Now, instead of a small scratch, it's a small scratch with a ridge of touchup paint, LOL.

What the heck am I doing wrong? I mean heck, I can't primer a tiny little scratch, can I? Should I try a different paint?

This particular scratch is about the size of... well, it's as if you took a paperclip end and dragged it through the paint for an inch. Yea, I know, stop cringing ;)

u could wet sand it, some touch up, some clear. best is to repaint the panel, but if you cannt afford it, try the touch up

Sounds like your touch up paint may be gone bad. Perhaps it was frozen at one time?

Try some fresh stuff, build it up in the scratch until it is high than the surrounding surface, then wet sand and polish.(Yes it is very scary to take sandpaper to your car, pratice on an unobtrusive area or on a beater)

Here's a site: http://www.toyotacelicas.com/information/detailing/paintchip.html

I had a really good site, a Jag one in the UK, but I can't find it now. They sanded an entire car to get rid of the blemishes and faded paint!
