Hey, my buddy is parting out his honda. On his honda, he had a t3/t4 drag turbo kit. (the turbo is t3/t4 and all the piping said "drag") He bought the car with the turbo and stuff on it and then in the process of building the car someone came in and stole his motor. The turbo was inside, so he still has it. He said I could give him whatever I wanted for the turbo, so how much should I give him? I can only use the turbo itself and the external tial wastegate. No shaftplay and ran at 7 psi (LOL). -matt

As I said, I woud be purchasing ONLY the turbo and the wastegate. I do not know the trim of the turbo. The car did run a high 13 sec. pass with 6-7 lbs of boost. I also need to make him an offer within the next day or so (or it could be gone) -matt

honostly it will prolly be more trouble than its worth.. your car isnt set up for it anyways. I mean if you got it for nothing you may want to look into how to fit it up but other than that.. you can put your money elseware

Yes you will need a different manifold but the goos thing is that t3/t4 style turbos are popular so they have many manifolds.

I myself have a t3/t04e 57trim with a .63ar. It would be good to know the specs but if he said offer him anything then I say you get it! Those turbos go for like 500-800 depending on specs and vendor. So you know, offer like 1-2 bills for everything. :D

You could keep it on the side till you're ready to upgrade or maybe even sell the wastegate and turbo for like 400

I say jump on it.

i appreciate the input. I was plannin on ofering him 300, but i wanted to make sure I wasnt over/under doing it. I am still not understanding what the problem with buying the TURBO and WASTEGATE would be. I know I would need a manifold (I am plannong on getting a tubular mani) and downpipe and the supporting mods. This is by no means gonna be bolted up tomorrow. Probally not even for another 6-10 months until I finish preparing. Thanks alot -matt

well the problem is you are going to need a 600 dollar manifold and a custom made 02 housing just to run it on your car. To me thats just a waste of money but hey if thats what you want to do go for it. Just giving you my opinion.

Whats the difference between buying this from my friend, and just buying a turbo and wastegate from a vendor. (saying I dont buy a "kit" with a manifold and such) I see you have an upgraded turbo, and I dont, so I am completely open to your noob-bashing on me. (because this IS my first turbo upgrade) Thanks alot -matt

If he doesn't spend the money on the manifold/O2 housing, he's going to have to spend it on a brand new turbo anyways.

If the turbo is in good shape, and it had nice specs (if you could get them,) I say go for it.

actually wastegates are universal so you can grab that without a problem. If he gives you a good price on it I would get it. I personally just dont like having to fabricate my own parts to get them to work. The manifold I know you can buy for 600 but I am unsure where to get an 02 housing that would work. If you can provide specs of the turbo it would make the choice much easier I would think. If you plan on building the car slowly you can try to get this turbo now and just get the parts you need for it as you can do it. Difference between me buying that turbo and one from a merchant.. the one i buy from the merchant will bolt right up without me having to change everything. Since you are starting from the ground up this may be a viable solution to just buy it and get parts for it when you need them.

not much less. And dont give me that crap ebay bull. I mean a real manifold that wont crack in a month. Find me a manifold for a DSM that is made for a T3 inlet and has a spot for the external wastegate for a good price and ill believe it heh. From what I have seen they are about 600 bucks. Anyways that doesnt matter I pretty much said my opnion on the turbo.

I've seen the DNP tubulars for as low as 499 now. He wouldn't have to go tubular though, and you can get a decent log for 300 or so. If it's got good specs, he'd be able to get it up and running for less than a 16g, so why not?

And if worse comes to worse, he could make more selling it on ebay than he spent on it.

I am still not getting what I would have to fab up. If i bought a t3/t4 turbo from a vendor, I would still have to buy the manifold and stuff. Or, if I buy it as a "set" then I would just be buying the turbo and manifold and stuff just mounted together (or known parts that DO fit together) Is there anything on the turbo itself I would have to change or do I just have to purchase an exhaust manifLOLd (for simplicities sake) Like I said, I may be being a major noob about this and not understanding right, which is why I am asking here before I go and buy parts. Thanks alot again you guys! -matt

you dont have to fab anything up. Just go to some good exhaust shop and have them make you a down pipe from the turbo down (buy the 5 or 4 bolt flange [dont know which one this turbo has] seperate and take it to them) and have them put an o2 bung on it. mine was 150 but that was because I was too lazy to buy the flange and wait so i hade them make the flange.

The only other thing I could thing of is that you will need to block off the turbo water lines because i dont think this turbo uses water cooling. Like i said. Jump on it!!! ;)

Ive made my $300 offfer to him and he said he'd let me know about that. He had another offer already, but im hoping he'll give me the "good friend" hook-up. I'll post again when I nkow for sure. Thanks alot! -Matt

Turbonetics T3 manifold for a 4G63, about $450 new. Cast, not tubular, so it will NEVER crack. Comes standard with 35/38mm Tial/Deltagate flange. Any DSM vendor can get you one.

there are many T3/T4 hybrids that use the mitsubishi manifold and 02 housing style so you wouldnt have to buy anything other than the turbo to bolt it up.

I appreciate all the help you guys. I am no noob to cars, but this is my first turbo upgrade, so I need all the input I can get. Like I said, talk to me like Im a noob, I will not get offended. I am pretty sure Ive done enough research, but any first hand experiences always help. -Matt

this is a very durable manifold and is casted very well!!! I own one, be weary of the tubular manifolds. They tend to crack easily.

My friend who's converting his 1.8L '97 RS got one for far cheaper than that on ebay. :) And its not just a POS and he's using a t3/t4 turbo for his setup as well.

1.8L 97 RS? Think you need to check up on that, they didn't make a 4G37 2G. It was either 420a or 4G63t.

ok, my friend agreed to sell me the turbo and wastegate for 300. I am going to post pics as soon as I get some so maybe someone can help me figure out the trim and what not. thanks alot guys! -matt
