unknown problem i dont what it could be need help please

it started to me yesterday i was driving and my rpms would drop to 0 then stall i would have to keep hitting the gas to have the car start i dont know if this help but the more info the better the other day there was this big rain storm and i dont know if my air filter sucked up water or not so i came here to ask for some help i drive a 91 dohc 2.0l gs n/t give me some ideas

If you think your filter sucked up water then take it off and let it dry.
Do you have any mods done to your car? if so, what?
It sounds more like it wants to run really rich at idle to me. but the filter would make sense also.

the only things i got done i removed the airbox and advanced the timing but like i was driving just drop to 0rpms and i could sit there for ever tryin to crank it it would crank id hit the gas it worked yesterday but 2day i couldnt get it to go again i would get it to start i would keep hittin the gas so the rpms stay up b4 i put it into drive but it would just die idk whats worng i felt the filter and it seemed dry i just need help on wht it could be and what i need to replace

and idk if water got in the mas

how would i know if its the fuel pump or ecu

if your filter was dry i would think the mas did not get wet. test fuel pressure and inspect your ecu for leaking caps

how would i test the fuel pressure and wheres the ecu and how do i look for leaking caps

i cant check the fuel pressure i cant get the car started

Check spark across the board. It could be as simple as weak spark caused by resistance in weak plug wires.

the plugs and wires are brand new there is a missfire but that shouldnt be the problem is there any possablity is has anything to do with a bad tranny?

No. It shouldn't have anything to do with a tranny.

im bout to put in a new bat see what happens from there because now i cant get it started if theres any more ideas that i can check without starting the car let me know im bout to check for leaking caps

and another thing i just remembered was that when i was trying to start the car yesterday i heard something like a backfire but im not sure if thats what it was because the car didnt start it happned twice

just got back from the shop and they told me ignition module & camshaft postion sensor
