I am in the process of rebuilding a 6-bolt for my 95 TSi. I got the entire engine and tranny freshly torched out of some car and shipped on a pallet. It still had part of the wiring harness and everything still on it.

I am at the stage where I am ready to install the intake manifold and I realized that this manifold has some sort of vacuum powered actuator on the side of the cylinder 1 runner. I have no idea what this thing is. It doesn't show up in any of my manuals. It resembles the old choke flappers from carborated motors.

Does anyone know what this is? Does it hinder the flow? Can it be removed?

I'm pretty sure that actuator is for the cyclone intake manifold. It has an extra set of runners that is activated by that device. There is a write up about it in the articles section, I believe.

Agreed...

But I do Solo 1 Hillclimbs. I'm at WOT most of the time. Torque is important when coming out of a corner but mainly it's all about power to weight ratios, Left foot braking and high RPM's

I'm not going to use most of it's features and the extra weight is a killer. I'm trying to get down to that 2600lb number and 5 lbs is huge.

Cyclone gives you high end flow AND low end torque in addition to spooling your turbo a bit quicker because of the increased low end air velocity...

I am lost for words. No one has bashed it yet! I feel so good now. Go read my article. It helps with spool up, gas mileage and is just a cool little gizmo. And were all into that here on Tuners. :p
