Underhood Temp Questions

Ok guys I have a question about my setup. I just recently purchased a Megan SS Mani, and was wondering should I heat wrap this thing or since I have a VIS CF Evo hood will the venting be enough. Honestly I am dumping the ricer bodykit that was on the car when purchased and going back OEM. Not sure I want to keep the hood. Does anyone have pics of this hood on OEM plastic? My setup is not overly insane but I have read alot about these cars loving to heat soak. Before the teardown it was around 130-140*ish after 20 min cruise and 70* ambient, Does that sound right?Thanks Chris.

I wish my temps where that low some times my under hood temps get 180 or so im not proud of that but i have a stock hood with a ram horn style manifold and sometimes need to remove hood for nights that im hard running... I would think your hood would work and look great as a few of my buddys back in the day i.e. before digital photos where popular had them and they where awesome but we have no pics of sorry

The Evo hood's vent is probably doing alot for you as far as heat displacement. Tubular mani's will run EXTREMELY hot. I would'nt run one under an OEM hood without it ceramic coated and wrapped... but that's just me. Just the more heat you keep in your mani and not your engine bay the more heat gets pushed though your turbo's hot side , creating faster spool.

With that said, I'd keep the Evo hood, and at least wrap the mani if not get it coated by a reputable coating company.

I don't run heat wrap any more. I did once until I saw friend of mine who had heat wrap and oil got on it and cought fire. In my opionion I think temps will be fine for you, as they have for me with out wrap. Maybe if you auto x all day temp would be important but I think you will be fine.

Did your buddy know that they make high temp silicone sealant that sprays on the finished wrap that keeps oil and grim out?

This is also why we properly monitor crank case pressure systems so dip sticks don't fly out and why we fix oil leaks.. especially around high temperature parts.

OP: if you decide wrap, make sure you do it properly as to save you from any future incidents such as fires or discovering rust under the wrap in the future.

I have an RRE hood vent and the temps under the hood are awesome nothing like an enclosed hood. Also no heat should on my fp exhaust manifold.
