First off I'm posting this for my friends brother. He has a 1992 Talon Tsi. Yesterday he went to install an apexi turbo timer, autometer air/fuel gauge, and a ebay boost gauge. After everything was hooked up the car started up and both the air/fuel, and boost gauge lit up and the turbo timer turned on and started the countdown from 30 seconds, and when the time ran out the turbo timer shut off. The next time he went to turn the car on the boost gauge did not light up and the turbo timer did the same thing. He also said he notcied a burning smell and noticed a little bit of smoke coming from the ecu area and wires down.

It was pretty late and I went over to see what was going on and he had the turbo timer harness plugged in over by the passenger side kick panel, the parking brake switch wired up, the ground wire from the ecu wired up and the o2 sensor wire wired up. he also tapped into the o2 sensor wire for the air/fuel gauge. I've never done a turbo timer install but after searching on here everything seemed to be wired up correctly.

So in the end when you turn the car on:
The turbo timer starts its countdown from 30 seconds and runs rough until the turbo timer shuts off and the screen stays blank. The only thing you can do to the turbo timer is change the countdown intervals while its counting down.

Then he found out that the radio/cd player, boost gauge, dome lights, power door locks, and horn don't work now. And the ABS light came on. He checked the fuses in the car and under the hood and he didn't find any blown fuses. He unhooked the turbo timer harness and still has all those problems.

Could he possibly have an ECU problem now? and why does the turbo timer start its countdown when you turn the car on and run rough until the countdown is over? Maybe he's plugged into the wrong harness? It sounded like it should be by the steering column and there should blue connector but like I said he has it plugged in over on the passenger side kick panel into a blue connector.

Sorry if any of this is confusing or too long, I tried searching last night but couldn't find a problem like this. I thought turbo timer installs were supposed to be pretty easy. Any help, suggestions or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

If it were my car I would take all that back out and see if the car is working right. He could of cut into the wrong wire for the o2 if he was going off of the ecu under the dash. Theres like 1000000 wires on there. As far as I know turbo timers install under the dash. There is a connector under there. At least thats how it was on my 2g.

If he unhooked the turbo timer and only had the air fuel guage and boost gauge in then it defently sounds like he hit some wire or cut something he wasnt suppose to.
