Stock 2G turbo, no mods whatsoever. Never had any turbo problems in 75,000 miles.

But now, during any spoolup, the power stutters or shudders until full boost is reached, when it smooths out just fine. It's a very fast shudder, as if it's cutting out like 10 times per second. Kinda feels like the shudder ABS does - it's that fast.

It's not the usual BSC cutout feeling: that always feel like the boost/advance is just cut completely for a few seconds, then comes back on. This is different - I've never felt it before. I'm assuming the BCS would take care of it if it was bad fuel (knock).

Part-throttle is really bad, as it takes longer to reach full-boost, and it stutters the whole time up.

It's bad enough that my wife riding as passenger feels it.

Oddly, it doesn't seem to take any/much longer to reach full-boost - it's just a miserable experience getting there.

Any ideas where to start looking?

How long does a stock turbo normally last anyway? What are the symptoms of a dying turbo?

Or is it more likely a leak somewhere, such as the stock BOV?

guys check some other things 1st. check ur spark plugs. i had the same problems. but mine was b/c i had small cracks in the porceline(sp?). like it was stated above, i also heard that the coils rarely go bad, but it's always a possibility. im just glad it's $12 plugs im replacing instead of $100+ coils. good luck.:thumb:

Well I got some plugs and wires about a month and a half ago so they should be alright, I'll pull them tomorrow (if I can get them out, they're hard as a bi*** to get out, LOL) and check the gap on my plugs and everything.

yeah look hard...last time i checked mine i thought they were fine. but i didnt even notice the cracks @ 1st, small hairline cracks.

i've heard different ways of checking the coil or wires. one of the most common was taking a spray bottle and spraying a little water over the wires/coil to see if u get any stuttering or see any arcing. but im not sure if that's the best way or not. maybe someone else can chime in on that one.

you guys! thank God you are here. im having a similar but not exactly the problem. me car is great while in Vac. but when i just hit boost, it feels like fuel cut(hitting a brick wall), do you think my problem is in any way relevent to yours?

mine had a coupole different problems...when mine felt like it was hitting a brick wall, it needed tuning. too much fule and i was hitting fuel cut off.

not the stuttering turbo was b/c of hairline cracks on my spark plugs. but the other guy had a bad coil.

good luck.:talon:

Hopefully paying $202 is a good way to motivate you to learn though! :D

LOL, it helps :)

But if I remember correctly, 99% of the $202 labor was the "diagnostic fee" to simply FIND the problem, not to fix it.

I had done all the newbie fixes I learned here (plugs, wires, injector cleaner, higher octane fuel, etc.), and was more than happy to pay $200 to find out once and for all what was wrong... and have my baby back running purrfect again :thumb:

I think it's the end of the world.

I had to go to a dealer to see if they got crank sproket bolt, and they actually had it in stock!!! Also, they guy knocked the price down to $12 from $22...
