Hi guys I'm still really new to DSM modding so I'll try to be as exact as possible in my description. This isn't so much for diagnosis of a problem so much as preventative maintenance. I just got a heat shield for my exhaust manifold from JM Fabrications (nice piece of work BTW) to help with my car's problem with heating up which was caused at least in part by my removing the factory heat shield. The old one was all rusted out and cracked in several places and I never considered it could have such a profound impact in heating things around it up! My question is this: My heat shield from JM covers the exhaust manifold but not underneath where the outlet side of the turbo joins to the O2 housing. My car will be a daily driver, so is the bottom part of the factory heat shield a must or can I simply leave it exposed? I apologize for the total noob question, but I am trying to learn more as I go along.
Thanks:)

I would keep it on, unless you want to risk melting your fans. Other people will tell you how they've ran without them for X amount of time, but whats the purpose? 1 lb of weight reduction?

Not even a pound! Keep it on. You are more likely to harm you alternator than melt fans, but either way keep it on.:thumb:

Hi guys yeah I'll obviously keep it on then. You're right. Saving half a pound or whatnot isn't worth future headaches. That's the "preventative maintenance" part I was talking about. Thanks!:)
