I was just curious guys, Would it be possible to use a 1 to 1 and half inch diameter ss hose, thats about 3" in length to make a dump tube flex section? To relieve fitment and tension problems resulting from a dumptube thats routed back into the downpipe.

I dont see why not, im sure you would need to weld it to the dump tube flange. But why only 3" in length? unless you were still going to try to route it into the downpipe why wouldnt you make it longer?
 
That's not what he's saying. He's talking about using a small flex section (i.e. the downpipe's flex section) to make a rerouted dump tube fit easier. I don't see why it wouldn't, the only problem would be finding a 1-1/2" flex section. You can't just used regular SS braided hose (if that's what you were thinking) because the rubber interior would melt.
 
Sorry, I meant a flex section. Bad wording on my part. I can get 1" flex sections thats not a problem. its trying to find one thats short enough LOL.

Alright, i test fitted my Intercooler and piping. I literally snapped every single bolt holding my bumper on :cry: . I even used PB blaster after snapping the first few. I used self-tapping screws on the top of the bumper and i have a bunch of wire holding the rest of the bumper in place but i need a more permanent solution. Is it common for these bolts to snap :confused: ? Im not new to working on cars but ive never snapped so many bolts in my life. Turbo will be going in this weekend :thumb:
 
I've snapped one, and stripped the hole on another while taking the bumper on and off so many times.

I have a 2Gb bumper waiting for me at home, so I figured while doing the conversion, I should probably take care of all those bolts so I don't get that whole ghetto-sag thing going on. Anyway, my advice is to just drill out the holes, and re-tap them. That's what I plan on doing... I'll probably use hex socket bolts for ease of removal, and it wouldn't be a bad idea to coat them in anti-seize so things come apart easier next time around.

LOL, I only laugh because I did it to 7 bolts total on the fenders and bumpers combined. Those grade 4 bolts are crap LOL once aged. I used an extractor to remove most of them, but some had to be drilled and re-tapped. I'm currently converting the ride to stock 2gb I'll get before and after pics once I get ready to re-paint.

Alright well at least this makes me feel better. Looks like ill be doing alot of drilling and tapping this weekend. Ill have pics of my I/C piping route, my bumper support modifications and (hopefully) pics of the completed install. :p
 
I drilled and tapped the four holding the bumper to the fender after I snapped them all. Too easy.

LOL, that sounds so ghetto. Not that i have room to talk with my new project underway my car is currently 2 colors LOL.

It was pretty ghetto, but made things A LOT easier to take the bumper off anytime I needed to. Mine actually never sagged so that was pretty awesome haha.

If it helps at all, I ran into the same dilema of having my turbo installed but having to get my car to my school to weld up the down pipe. I took a 90* pipe bend, 2 exhaust clamps, and a 2 foot section of flexable exhaust pipe and ghetto rigged a nice asphyxiating setup to drive to make the downpipe. :thumb:

AHAHA oh i wish that were the case... my car has battled me every step of the way, it probably took me 20-25 hours to install everything by myself. Speaking of issues, i started the car today. Sounds beastly with the half-assed downpipe and it idles great but whenever i start to accelerate the car stumbles and stalls. I should probably mention that I installed the FCD but i have not tuned it yet. I dont have a voltmeter and ill need to go pick one up. Could this be my problem? i was under the impression that since the ECU only cuts fuel when it sees boost that the FCD would not make any difference but the car is definently stumbling before boost. :cry: . If it is not the FCD then please point out any other possibilities. thanks.
 
It could be all sorts of things... maybe the FPR (FMU), vacuum leaks, FCD...

Did you buy your FCD from me? I sell so many of these things, I forget who all I've sold them to... If so, it shouldn't need tuning, as it's pretuned... just a little fine tuning to get things working optimally.
 
well i took the FMU off and nothing changed so im fairly certain thats not it. im at school no and i wont get another shot at my car till this weekend. And i got the FCD from treadstone.
