I think my turbo has only glowed red ONCE ... and thats when my friend was mashing in Milpitas,, the damned... downpipe came off thanks to cheap bolts... never happened since... I almost always pop the hood after driving it hard just to check on things..

What's your point? Your setup could be different than this guys. I've seen lots of glowing turbos. As long as you let them cool down before you shut it off nothing ever happens. So what is the issue? It happens all the time/for no reason. Again, who cares as long as you let it cool before shutting it off. Stop being your mom's anal tool.

BatmanGSX=dsmtuners #1 flamer.... down boy... easy... they are not laughing at you they are laughing with you...

The only time I have seen glowing turbos is during circuit track racing... I would listen to TRE they have alot more experience than many people here. What are your EGT temps? I would suspect something to do with the 14b swap... too lean or whatnot. Maybe the turbo is out flowing the injectors? Is the fan going on in front of the turbo... in my car that fan goes on first before the coolant fan does. Though I also know a guy that put a 16g swap in his 2g and completely melted his fan... this is a wierd situation.

no....im not laughing with him. it doesnt seem like he even enjoys helping anyone. he seems to be one of those people who have done things, and have the experience, but like to stand back, watch the people make mistakes then laugh at them for it.

As far as I understand, you shouldn't be able to see the turbo or exhaust glowing after easy driving. The only time I've seen mine or anybody elses glow is if they drive really hard, then immediately pull over and look, and I've never been able to see it during the day.

The idea about the unburnt fuel due to bad ignition system sounds fairly promising... The blinkey back-and-forth AF gauge isn't very useful though, because although it says "Rich" at WOT, it doesn't tell you how rich or lean, it's too inaccurate between LEDs.

If that were the case I would have no posts.

I just have on tolerance for stupid people or people giving wrong answers.

it seems to me your the one who did not read fully into this thread to realize his turbo was glowing after a few minutes of light driving, and that is not normal, nor is his question then. this is supposed to be a site where peolpe can ask a question they may have on there car and get as many ideas thrown back as possible, a large brainstorming group in essence. if many peolpe are saying this is not right, i would trust them over the one person saying shut up its normal.

I did read that it happens after light driving. He has a bigger turbo. Fu@king get over it. My friend's 16G on a 5sp used to do the same thing.

Whoa everyone calm down and be nice :) I didn't mean to start any pissing contests.

My friend has a Big 16G in his car and his turbo/turbine housing doesn't glow ever.

Anyway I'll tell you guys what I found out today. The guy who looked at my car before, the owner of TRE is out of town at some car show in Vagas I think it was so I had one of the other guys look at it now that the A/F and boost gauge is installed. I still dont have my EGT installed due to the fact my Gen 2 Manifold isnt drilled or on the car yet.

Anyway the other guy from there gets in the car and we go for a lil ride around the city. First thing he says is these gauges are not acurate but its a good place to start, widebands better. He then states ok that how the gauge should cycle at idle. We pull out of the parking lot and the gauge shoots up to green and hangs there. He says ok thats too rich right off the start. Its normal for it to get up there when we get on it but not this soon. Its too rich. Then we get up to about 45 mph and its cycleing normal. Thats after the too rich assy no power take off. One minite its too lean, the next its too rich, then its fine. He says ok its something in your fuel system. Prolly the small injectors.

He said I should get a bigger fuel pump or atlease rewire and put in some larger injectors (atleast 450cc's) and an AFC.

He seems to think the car was getting too rich and that the unburned gas was passing threw the manifold to the choke point (turbine housing) and burning there due to the heat.

This sound right?

I have 2 Apexi Digital Super AFC's, Just cuz I got them at a killer price and I happen to have a set of 450cc injectors. They told me to come back tomarrow and if they had time they would install that #@%#@%#@%#@% for me and tweak the fuel system.

Think this will work? He wasnt 100% sure but said its a good starting mod.

well even if it doesn't fix your problem right off, air/fuel tuning is a great way to get more power out of your car, especially with a good shop to help you out. If the guys at the shop are willing to help you out, be very thankful that a DSM-knowledgeable place is helping.

Oh, and guys, if you get an answer to your question that is sarcastic or even "mean" suck it up, if you get offended by what people say to you over the internet, you really need to just take a step back and look at what's going on. It's the internet, people are harsh and whatnot 'cause they can be, and they will be. If you don't like it, get off the 'net. Don't take anything personally, because at the end of the day, you can just shut off your computer, and if you ever met one of the people you prolly wouldn't know anyway.

Really, quit whining.

not whining, just trying to help out. ive been working on turbos for a very long time, never saw one glow red under cruise. to glow red it would have to be this hot:
blood red: 1050
dark cherry:1075
medium chery:1250
bright red:1550
salmon:1650
etc... any way if the kid is sayin its glowing bright red on a short casual drive the temp. has got to be from 1000+to 1650, which is not good, max egt's are usually around 1275-1300, he doesnt have much working room. even if the temp. is not being created in the combustion chamber he still could damaged or premeturly coke the turbo fom the localized heat. i would be more worried about melting a fan and catching fire.

Glowing red under cruising driving Isnt normal, under hard pulls yes. I would say check your plugs and wires and get an engine flush becuase like mentioned before your oil lines could be clogged. Just a question when you "Cruise" how much do you boost.
