I need some help with tuning with the gm maft. I basicly don't understand it at all. I have read through the instructions that came with it I don't understand. No one around here is running it that I can get ahold of. If someone that has it could help me, message me on AIM - brianhaynes4, YIM - haynesbrian4, or MSN - [email protected].

One quick thing tho, if I set the setting for the correct injectors and leave everything at 0, can I drive around? As long as I keep the RPMs low and stay off the gas?

No offense, but there are a TON of how do I tune the gm maft threads in this tuning section; just on the first and second pages:

I pray that you have some sort of tuning device, like a pocketlogger. If not, then you shouldn't have the gm maf, and you shouldn't have larger than stock injectors. Yes the gm maf is a little confusing, but reading here or on the gm maft forum should give you a pretty good idea on how to set it up.

I would say IF you had stock injectors, then you would be O.K leaving the dials at zero and driving around. If you have anything other then stock, then you need to tune it; not just set it for 550 or 650 injectors. Also, did you hook up the rpm wire. If not then do that.

I'll quote Kyle from one of the many gm maft tuning threads:
(P.S.- Sorry if I come off grouchy; hungry and waiting for dinner to arrive. If you have more questions, post up and I/someone can answer them).

I think you need to totally revamp your tuning strategy. Try this instead:

Tune the base knob first, but DO NOT tune it at idle. If you do, then the global fuel will be all off. Instead, you want to cruise at over 60 mph, so that you're pulling decent airflow but still in closed loop. THEN use the base knob to tune the hi fuel trim and the O2 trim as close to 100% as possible.

All the other knobs should be zeroed out at this point.

Once you get the base dialed in, it is time to work on the idle and mind. Idle is pretty easy; just let the car idle, and play with that knob until the trims even out. You will probably have to richen it up some, but different cars are weird sometimes.

The mid, I usually am able to leave at zero. However, watch the O2 trim and watch knock, and get it set up right.

MAKE SURE YOU PRESSURE TEST BEFORE TUNING! If you are tuning with a boost and/or vacuum leak, the car will run shitty, guaranteed.

Hopefully that gets you straightened out.
