Recently I rebuilt my motor. It's completely reinstalled now and running. I did not mess around with the linkage, and I'm nearly 100% sure that they are not switched. Before the rebuild, it worked fine, so instead of trying to diagnose what happened, I'm just trying to get it fixed.

I went to take her on her maiden voyage a few hours ago, and I couldn't get it in reverse or 1st. So I've been working for these last hours adjusting the linkage. After shortening and lengthening both, I've found a happy medium where I have 1st-4th. I still cannot, however, get it in 5th and reverse.

Ever heard of this? Any suggestions?

Did you try getting into gear with the car off? Results? Have you adjusted the clutch pedal?
Also make sure the master nor slave cyl. are leaking. Make sure the cables aren't binding.

Did you separate the tranny from the block when you took the motor out?

Hard to say for sure but since you've tried everything else, I too vote, re-bleed and adjust your clutch pedal.

If my clutch engagement is too low I can't get into 1st or reverse. Same symtoms when I have air in the line.

It seems to be a physical problem with the shifter actually getting over to 5th and reverse. It doesn't seem to be a fluid problem, because I can drive it around in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.

The clutch engagement feels the same as before I took the motor out. I can try adjusting the pedal.

I did separate the block and transmission. I unbolted the slave cylinder from the transmission, but did not disconnect the fluid line from it. I wired the rod down so it stayed compressed.

I will also try bleeding it, but like I said, it does not seem to be a fluid problem.

I had the same issue when I rebuilt my transmission. Since the transmission was not touch it is just something to look at. There is a bolt on the top of the trans next to the shift levers. That bolt has a ball on the end that controls tension against the 5th/rev rod. Lossen it some and see if the shifting is better. If it does then the washer may be missing from the bolt or it was overtighten and it was crushed, putting too much tension against the rod. Have a look at vfaq for Dre's transmission rebuilt to locate the bolt if you are unable to find it.
