My buddy's got a fully rebuilt TRE tranny, I'm betting it'll be ripped to shit in months cause he pounds on it everywhere. What are your ideas? How long have your rebuilt trannys lasted? He has double-syncro second, new syncros in all gears, new shift forks, and a TRE drag spool.

Is it a street car? If so, what made him opt to go with the spool?

I have a TRE trans, I beat the crap out of it and haven't had any problems yet.

I'm sure I will eventually though :p

I'm approaching 60K on my TRE rebuild and it still shifts great. No issues.

I have the TRE that my friend put the post about on. Someone asked if i have a street set up with the spool, i do. It hasnt had too much effect on my daily driving, except when i am parking. If u have any thoughts on this, please post the. On my old tranny the center differential went out so that was something that i didnt want to worry about anymore.

How long have you been driving on the street with that drag spool? I always though those were too rough around the edges to be streetable. Why not just get an LSD instead of the stool? I'm not flaming, I'm just curious.... :thumb:

just curious if people that wrote they haven't had problems so far could include how many miles they've had it and if the car gets beat on / raced a lot and at what rpm they generally shift. I think that would be very helpful info to decide if it's worth the money for a tre / shep tranny or just throw an oem rebuilt one on every summer which usually costs me about $600 to rebuild.

I got the spool with the tranny. I got the tranny locally with 4000 miles on it and it had been rebuilt with it in. I asked the mechanic and he's a big dsm'r also with the spool in his tranny and his is a daily driver. He told me that there's nothing wrong with the spool except that when you take a turn into a parking stall at a slow speed it will lock up unlike just cruisin right in like a regular car would.

I was just curious. They will make slow speed turning somewhat of a pain, but I wanted YOUR input on how you liked it. Thanks

Spools/welded center diffs really aren't a big deal. The only time you really notice them is when you're turning at 2 mph with your wheel at full lock, you just need to feed in a little more gas than normal.

You can get the parts from tre and have someone rebuild it locally or you can go to www.teamrip.com and look at what the got.

I asked tre for the parts and they said they won't sell them unless they are the ones installing them .. who told you you can get the parts from them????? Shep said the same.

neither jon or john will sell you parts because that will reveal the recipie for the secret sauce.
i have a full tilt boogie tre 2G tranny with the 4 gear spider, gvr-4 1st. and 10% taller 5th. gears. i only have 10,000 on it but that's behind a geeked up 2.3.
it's my daily driver and i am very happy.
