I sent my Tranny to Jon at TRE. I have a 95 GSX that will be featured in Dsport Magazine in a few months. My question is for those that are making big power....

#1. If you could rebuild your tranny again what parts/things would you do to make it better.

#2. What isn't needed. "This is a mid 10 second car and makes 600+ hp" The car was built on a budget and I don't like upgrading things that aren't needed.

#3. The use of this car is for drag and freeway blasts mainly.

#4. I want to do this right the first time. My stock tranny and diff lasted for years and the diff finally gave way.

Anyone who has been through the process of doing a performance rebuild I would love to hear what you have to say about this topic.

Thanks guys:dsm:

New input and intermediate shafts, 2G double synchro 2nd gear, EVO 3 double synchro 3rd and 4th gears, stock 5th gear. Evo shift forks, evo 3/4 hub and slider/synchro assembly, quaife center differential or 4-spider center diff with torrington bearing upgrade, quaife front differential.

If the price scares you, the next alternative is the dogbox:

Gearset: $4800 not installed.

Personally, I wish I spend the $$$$ on the dogbox from the start. It would have saved me a crapload of money, as I am on Tranny #10 now (2 stock trannies, 8 built trannies).

You said you wanted a drag car, and that is a drag transmission that CAN handle the power all day long. You just have to shift it with authority, and be aware of additional maintenence (regular fluid changes depending on driving characteristics).

And congratulations! I have been in contact with DragSport for a while now about a magazine article, but was waiting until after the cage was installed, and 9 second passes were made.

I wanted to make sure that the car was a good addition to the mag, and 700WHP and 9's is what I feel it takes.

I would go with a welded diff. I have a shep stg 3 and the best part of the tranny IMO is the welded diff. Absolutely love it!

Thanks for the advice so far! I didn't mention that I want the car to be streetable. The dogbox although bulletproof is not something I'd like to get. I have chosen to go with the 4 spider diff and stage 2 rebuild "torrington bearing upgrade" taller 1st gear double syncro 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th with steel shift forks. The car is making some good power right now. I am still on the stock 6 bolt and have a built 2 liter that I will install very soon.

Twicks69 thank you! I have been trying to get into Dsport for over 2 years and the car is only weeks away before the photo shoot. RnR racing "who sold the business last month" did all the turbo parts "Intercooler/Manifold/Turbo/Exhaust" Since I have a stock bottom end I'm ganna try and break the record on a stock bottom-end for fun. :) You're makin some crazy power bro! My pic doesn't do the car much justice, but It's very clean and although this car has been a real headache at times.....It was all worth it.

Maybe one day I won't be an unknown on this forum :)

Dsmer 4 life!

If it were me, I'd ditch the Quaife center diff and just weld the stocker. Better performance and you save well over a thousand dollars. I'd also opt for the 11% taller 1st gear, mostly because it's a bit stronger than the OE gear.
