Im currently doing a Auto to manual swap on my 98 GSX the Manual tranny i just bought has a 5 speed tranny with a 23 spline output shaft to the transfer case I have a rebuilt transfer case with a 23 spline that I think was from an auto but it has the same spline count can I use this one or do i have to find another transfer case from a manual??

According to TRE If your car is 97-99 then you need a transfer case from that year range. They said even if the spline count is the same you need to make sure it comes from the correct year range because they have different gear ratios pre 1997. Im swapping a 98 GSX 5 speed into my 2G 98 GSX auto. Im going to try to document it all and take picures. for others. :D
