Hello again my buddy that is helping me out with my car want's to check the timing with a timing light i been browsing on here & Google and really haven't found anything still on how to use one is there any special way or could u just shine it on the timing belt this goes with my previous post on here http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/464753-low-vacume-non-turbo.html and that's the link to it sorry if I'mputting this in the wrong place still new to this & new to a forum like this one

You can put the light on it like any other vehicle (clamp on #1 cylinder) but there's no way to adjust anything. So your really not going to get much out of doing it.

its more for diagnostic reasons he just doesn't want us to go through all the work of replacing the timing belt & water pump if its not fully needed at this time

If your just trying to see if its in time the best way is to just take the covers off the front of the motor an check all your timing marks to make sure they line up where there suppose to like mentioned in your other post.

I had a question about replacing timing belt. I have a 97 gsx with 49k org miles.

I know the first thing to do is maintenance, but can I wait awhile to replace timing chain and water pump? I can do it at anytime, but I would be a little tight on funds. I wanted to wait a few months. The belt doesn't look bad either.

You're never going to need to replace the chain, and the water pump can wait if it doesn't leak or make noise.
