So Ive been driving my car for about 1500 miles now and it seems like there is a NOT so serious leak coming from my dumptube off my Tial 38mm MVS wastegate. Everyline is hooked up correct. Bottom line goes to side of my Hallman Pro, and the front of it is T'ed too my Tial 50mm BOV and to a throttle body port. I think A. Anyways this is the conventional way of running your boost lines. I know people have been claiming to run it off the compressor housing but in my opinion it makes minimal difference.

The real question though is at idle my wastegate seems to leak, and this in turn is affecting proper boost and making my turbo run harder then it should. I have a HX35 with BEP housing and Fp manifold. Seems like ill get to 20psi at about 4500 which is quite laggy.... Should be at 30 by 4200ish.

But how can I have a leaky wastegate with an exceptional brand and quality piece? I know your going to ask is the fire ring installed. Sorry not someone who forgets parts! However when I flash a light into the exhaust entrance hole, I can see it come out of the exit hole, as if it was an eclipse. (Light shining between the piston and fire ring.

Its to late to return as Ive had it for months now and used it for months, but maybe buying a new piston and fire ring? Otherwise I was thinking about using valve seating compound and attaching a drill to the piston and spinning it against the seat and reseating it?

Im at a loss for words, I should'nt have to be doing this to a great brand and quality product. :hmm:

P.S. I have 20 psi setting of springs in there, and they are all in there (have taken it apart multiple times)

Who'd you buy it from? It has a serial # on top? Can you post pics?

Contact Jake at TiAL (our tech guy) and he will walk you through trouble shooting and decide if you need to send it in for warrantee. Usually this is done through the distributor you bought it from so contact them first.

Tech: [email protected]
Fax: (989) 729-9973

"If you have purchased our products from one of our authorized distributors and need additional parts and/or technical advice please contact that distributor first. They will be able to assist you with what you need .Feel free to contact us either by fax or e-mail. If you wish to order products or if you would like more information on any of our products that we manufacture feel free to contact us." - from our site.

PS: Not my fault! (if its faulty)...wastegates arent my division, haha. And please contact us before going to the forums downing on our products. We are happy to take care of the issue. And as with every manufacturer mistakes do slip through.

Goodluck and if you dont have any luck with the distributor or Jake, let me know and ill see what i can do.

Haha thanks a lot man. I would never down Tial haha, they are one of my favorite companies, and I love their products; would'nt buy anyone elses. The only thing I can think off is that my dumptube had a dent on it (meaning i hit a speedbump or drain hump and it contacted my downpipe). However I dont think this contact could "warp the external casing of the wastegate, could it? If anything I would just need a new piston and fire ring correct, as those are the two matting surfaces?

Thanks again!!!!

Haha, thats aight man. Not that you were actually downing Tial. Its just we get a lot of flak from the European Audi S4 crowd that buy our products looking for something to be wrong and then posting it on their forums without contacting us about the "problem". I mean if we dont know how do we fix it? Lol. And i can understand your dissapointment and frustration more than anyone.

Deff contact Jake though. (at the tech link i posted above, hes our only techguy) He will know more than i do and youll probly have to email pics to him. IDK how the warrantee process works but i know he handles the paperwork, shipping, and repair orders.
**DO NOT mention that 'you' may have caused damage to it.**

Its possible. I realy cant say much. Im one of the turbo guys, wastegates are handled by others. But i will ask today at work. Idk if a new valve and valve seat would fix it though, could have damaged the bushing that alignes the valve...

If the top port sees vacuum, it can pull the wastegate open.

This is correct.

But check this for me:

Take the gate off the car and take the actuator top off (this voids the warrantee for the actuator portion of the gate but you state you have already done this). Next you want to put your thumbs on the springcup and fingers on the bottom of the actuator bottom and with the valve seat installed and the gate placed on a flat table top, try to move the casting up and down. You are checking for a very tiny amount of play in the springcup which in turn tells you that the valve is contacting the seat. If it doesnt have any play contact our tech to send it in. *we are off untill Mon.

While apart check the diaphragm for tears. You could have pinched it when reassembling previously. Dont forget to tuck the diaphragm after partially screwing down three opposite screws.

If it has play and you can still see the valve is not sitting correctly on the seat, something most likely got damaged.

Also if it checks out fine with this method, it sounds like you are seeing vacuum.
