what type of sealent do i pot on my tempture sensor threds can i use the same as my valve cover

The pipe threads on the Temp Sensor don't need Sealant.

the book said that i needed sealent on the sensor that gose into the thurmastat housing

If you're going to put sealant on there despite what Buck said, you can use teflon paste or teflon tape. Either should be readily available at your local hardware store.
